JOB PURPOSE
The Payroll Specialist administers full-cycle payroll for DriverCheck employees across Canada, ensuring accurate and timely processing and full compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements. Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR, People and Culture, the Payroll Specialist maintains data accuracy in the HRIS and payroll system, and administers the RRSP and group benefit programs, government remittances, and year-end filings.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time across multiple provinces, primarily Ontario and Alberta, for both hourly and salaried employees;

Ensure accurate and timely processing of each biweekly pay cycle, including any applicable calculations, setting up new hires, processing terminations, reviewing and managing timecards, and processing bonuses and other special payments;

Verify and input taxable benefits, set up garnishments and other deductions, and prepare ROEs as required;

Administer the RRSP program, including accurate setup of enrollments, changes and terminations, and ensure contributions are reported accurately and on time;

Administer the group benefit plan, including enrollments, changes and terminations;

Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual filing of government remittances, and process applicable payments and reconciliations;

Manage the full year-end process, including T4/T4A reconciliation, preparation and filing of annual remittances, and preparation of T2200s as applicable;

Communicate effectively to employees regarding payroll changes, answer any questions, resolve issues, and notify employees of any issues with payments;

Ensure organizational compliance with federal and local regulations, auditing, and other applicable laws;

Maintain employee records and HRIS data with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality, including accurate filing of documentation and record keeping;

Prepare reports for the department and senior management as requested;

Prepare and complete analysis on data within the payroll system as needed by management and within the HR team;

Work collaboratively as part of a cohesive HR team and with other departments, especially Finance/Accounting;

Participate in continuous learning through the National Payroll Institute (provincial requirements, legislative updates etc.);

Maintain payroll software and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
-
Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation is required
-
Minimum three (3) years of experience in payroll management
-
Post-secondary education in Finance, Business, or a related field is an asset

Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle, end-to-end payroll processing

Experience with the Canadian version of ADP Workforce Now, or another payroll system, is required

Strong understanding of payroll legislation in Ontario, Alberta, and other provincial jurisdictions
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel (intermediate to advanced), are required

Strong knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Employment Standards Code, and other applicable legislation regarding payroll and benefits compliance

Ability to work with diplomacy and professionalism

Ability to adapt quickly to meet deadlines and prioritize time sensitive tasks

Strong ability to work independently and in a team environment

Excellent communication skills, including writing and speaking, as well as attention to detail are required

Role supports all time zones across Canada – availability between the hours of 8am-6pm EST is required.

Minimal Canadian travel may be required.
