Job Summary:
This position reports to the Manager, Customer Service and is responsible for arranging and maintaining library materials in proper sequential shelf order, to process library materials, assist with preparing program crafts and assist as needed at the Customer Service desk.
Working as part of a collaborative team environment, will work towards achieving the strategic goals of SCPL.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Materials Handling

Sorts, checks, shelves, shelf reads and retrieves library materials;

Checks in book drop, inter-branch and reciprocal borrowing materials;

Processes some library materials outlined in established procedures, by such activities as stamping, labelling, clipping, gluing, jacketing, affixing labels as assigned;

Provide assistance on the Customer Service desk, checking out customers, processing registrations, collecting fines, etc.

Performs other duties as required.
Teamwork

Participates in team meetings to communicate updates, address concerns, plan services;

Works with team members to ensure department workflow is smooth and efficient, providing direction when necessary;

Fosters and maintains positive work relationships with library staff;

Contributes to healthy and safe work environment while supporting the Library’s mission and values
Working Conditions:

This position works at any library location;

Hours of work will include evenings and weekends to support the work of the Library.

Must be able to withstand the physical demands of the job.

Must have the ability to accurately perform detailed work in an environment where interruptions are constant.

Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and municipal, provincial and federal privacy legislation
Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 8, Ability to read and write English;

Proven ability to order numbers sequentially and to alphabetize;

Ability to work accurately and efficiently under immediate supervision;

Good interpersonal and communication skills;

Working knowledge of technology, ability to use automated systems;

Hours of Work:
Not more than 48 hours per 2 week pay period, weekdays, evenings, and weekends (including Sundays) as required.
Hourly Rate:
$16.60 (Minimum wage under 18 years of age)
$17.60 (Minimum wage over 18 years of age)
