Bring your technical expertise in road maintenance and strong planning and contract management skills to the Ministry of Transportation. Here your work will make a significant contribution to ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's transportation infrastructure.

About the job

In this role, you will:

administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
ensure contractors maintain work records
monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

The positions require the successful candidates to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.

Road Maintenance and Construction Knowledge

understanding of road maintenance, inspection and repair in summer and winter conditions
understanding of structural, facilities, highway signage and pavement marking maintenance
practical knowledge of road construction, practices, equipment and materials

Legislative and Contract Management Knowledge

thorough knowledge and skills in contract administration
ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act

Supervisory and Planning Skills

proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
ability to manage stakeholders in high pressure situations

Communication, Negotiation and Computer Skills

demonstrated negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
working knowledge computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail
