Job Title: Senior Mechanical Designer
Reports to: Engineering Lead
Are You Ready to Lead Design Solutions That Make a Difference?
At SWS, we are committed to setting the golden standard in client care, technical innovation, and seamless reliability. As an industry leader, we deliver solutions that ensure safety and enhance functionality in challenging environments. We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to drive the creation of cutting-edge, custom solutions and further support the expansion of our Arrow product family.
Why You?
You are an accomplished mechanical designer with a decade of real-world application experience. You have deep knowledge of load-bearing structural design, metal/aluminum fabrication, and motion design systems (electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and linear actuators). Your ability to conduct stress analysis and apply it practically sets you apart. You combine technical mastery with creativity to develop innovative, durable, and reliable solutions that meet and exceed client expectations.
Beyond design, you are also a true manufacturing partner, comfortable stepping onto the production floor to work hands-on with the team, refine prototypes, and ensure your concepts can be built efficiently and reliably. You don’t just draw designs; you bring them to life.
Who We Are NOT Looking For:
- Lack of Initiative: If you wait for directions rather than seeking new solutions, this may not be the right fit.
- Lone Wolves: Our success is built on collaboration; if you prefer working in isolation, this role might not suit you.
- Static Performers: We value adaptability and proactive problem-solving. If you resist change and new challenges, you might struggle in this dynamic role.
- Paper-Only Designers: If you can only create drawings but lack the ability or interest to see them through to production, this is not the right role. We need someone who can engineer solutions and ensure they become tangible, functional products.
Your Role:
- Innovative Leader: Lead the design and development of complex structural and motion-based systems that align with client needs and company strategy.
- Client Solutions Architect: Collaborate with sales, marketing, and clients to translate requirements into tailored, high-performing product designs.
- Stress & Performance Analyst: Apply stress analysis and other engineering methods to validate designs for safety, durability, and compliance.
- Fabrication & Manufacturing Partner: Design for manufacturability (DFM) in aluminum/metal fabrication, ensuring efficient production and high quality.
- Technology Scout: Research, evaluate, and integrate mechanical and electromechanical components, including actuators and motion systems, into product designs.
- Process Innovator: Collaborate with production teams to refine processes and ensure products move smoothly from design to manufacturing.
- Documentation Specialist: Maintain meticulous design records, specifications, and lifecycle documentation for all projects.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Proven Experience: Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, ideally in structural design, fabrication, and motion systems.
- Technical Expert: Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, with advanced knowledge of DFM, GD&T, and stress analysis techniques.
- Fabrication Knowledge: Hands-on understanding of aluminum and metal fabrication methods, welding, and assembly.
- Motion Systems Experience: Comfort with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, as well as linear actuators.
- Simulation Skills: Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent CAE tools for static, modal/frequency, vibration, fatigue, and motion studies as well as using simulation to support design verification, root-cause analysis, and design-for-reliability.
- Collaborative Innovator: Thrive in a cross-functional team environment, working closely with engineering, production, and client-facing teams.
- Continuous Learner: Open to adopting new technologies and approaches to maintain leadership in mechanical design innovation.
- Effective Communicator: Able to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What We Offer:
- Impactful Work: Your designs will directly contribute to the safety, reliability, and efficiency of industries across North America.
- Professional Growth: Opportunities for continuous learning, certifications, and advancement in a supportive environment.
- Collaborative Culture: Be part of a team where innovation is celebrated, and everyone shares the mission of delivering world-class solutions.
