Core & Main Canada is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to support project bidding and sales efforts by preparing accurate material estimates, performing quantity take-offs, and reviewing project specifications. The Estimator plays a critical role in delivering competitive and compliant proposals by evaluating construction drawings, identifying project requirements, and developing comprehensive cost estimates for municipal, infrastructure, waterworks, and utility projects.
Key Responsibilities
Quantity Take-Offs
- Review project drawings, plans, and bid documents to perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Measure and quantify materials and components required for project execution.
- Verify quantities and identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Maintain detailed records of take-off calculations and supporting documentation.
Estimate Preparation
- Prepare timely and accurate cost estimates based on project requirements and company pricing standards.
- Develop material lists, budgets, and quotations for customers.
- Solicit and evaluate supplier and vendor pricing to ensure competitive project costing.
- Analyze project scope, risks, and cost drivers to support bid strategy and pricing decisions.
- Update and maintain estimate databases, pricing tools, and estimating templates.
Specification & Requirement Research
- Review project specifications, contract documents, and tender requirements to ensure compliance.
- Research applicable standards, codes, and product requirements relevant to municipal and infrastructure projects.
- Identify approved products, substitutions, and material requirements based on project specifications.
- Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal subject matter experts to validate technical requirements.
Collaboration & Project Support
- Work closely with sales team, suppliers, and customers throughout the bidding process.
- Respond to requests for quotations and provide technical support related to material requirements.
- Assist in bid reviews and post-bid evaluations.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Estimating, or related field preferred.
- Experience in construction estimating, waterworks, utilities, infrastructure, or municipal projects.
- Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and digital take-off tools; Plan swift.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of municipal water, wastewater, stormwater, and underground infrastructure products.
- Experience with public tendering and procurement processes.
- Familiarity with Canadian construction standards and specifications.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
