Sous Chef – Flame & Barrel St. Albert

Join the Culinary Team at Flame & Barrel

Flame & Barrel is an independent Steakhouse & Bar known for exceptional food, premium ingredients, handcrafted cocktails, and outstanding guest experiences. As we prepare to open our exciting new St. Albert location, we are looking for an experienced, passionate, and driven Sous Chef to join our leadership team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to help build and lead a high-performing kitchen team.

Position Summary

As a Sous Chef at Flame & Barrel, you will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee daily kitchen operations, ensure food quality and consistency, support team development, and help deliver exceptional dining experiences. You will play a key leadership role in maintaining our culinary standards while fostering a positive and productive kitchen culture.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations.
Lead, train, coach, and motivate kitchen staff to maintain high performance standards.
Oversee food preparation, cooking, plating, and presentation to ensure consistency and quality.
Support menu development, recipe creation, and implementation of new culinary ideas.
Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and storage of food and kitchen supplies.
Ensure proper food handling, sanitation, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment.
Assist with scheduling, labor management, food costing, and inventory control.
Collaborate with front-of-house and back-of-house teams to ensure smooth service operations.
Help manage kitchen budgets and minimize waste while maintaining product quality.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar leadership role within a high-volume restaurant.
Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation, and various cuisines.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication, organizational, and time management abilities.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and quality control standards.
Creative mindset with a passion for food and hospitality.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
