Job Overview
The Senior Accountant reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for providing full cycle accounting support and preparing financial statements. The ideal candidate must possess strong accounting and technical skills and must strive in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Lead the full-cycle accounting function across multiple business entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
· Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of working papers, reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
· Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses for multiple business units and stakeholders.
· Prepare and file GST/HST returns and other statutory remittances in accordance with regulatory requirements.
· Maintain and reconcile intercompany accounts, investigate discrepancies, and ensure timely resolution.
· Prepare cash flow reports and assist with cash management, including processing EFT/ACH payments and bank transfers.
· Assist in the preparation and coordination of corporate tax filings, government reporting, and external audits, serving as a key liaison with auditors.
· Analyze financial results and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to support business decision-making.
· Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through accurate journal entries, account analysis, and reconciliations.
· Develop, maintain, and continuously improve accounting policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and internal controls to strengthen financial governance and operational efficiency.
· Partner with operational and executive leadership to improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and business performance.
· Participate in finance transformation initiatives, including accounting system implementations, process automation, testing, and continuous improvement projects.
· Support the CFO with special projects, financial analysis, and strategic initiatives as required.
· Maintain financial security by identifying, investigating, and resolving accounting discrepancies while safeguarding company assets.
Qualifications
· CPA designation or working towards completion.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· Knowledge and Understanding of Canadian GAAP.
· Knowledge and Understanding of Full Cycle Accounting.
· Strong foundation within Accounts Payable and Receivables.
· Minimum five years of progressive working experience in accounting.
· Must have experience in Quickbooks.
· Experience in Revenova TMS is a plus.
· Extremely proficient with Excel, great computer skills required.
· One or more years previous experience in the transportation industry preferred.
· Effective communication skills with all individuals at all levels of the organization.
· Ability to adapt and learn new software.
· Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
· High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts.
· Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
· Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procures.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
