Senior Overnight Custodian & Facilities Lead
Confidential Employer | Full-Time, Overnight Position$60,000/year + Benefits + 2 Weeks Paid Vacation
The Role
An established fitness organization is looking for a highly reliable, hands-on Senior Overnight Custodian & Facilities Lead to take ownership of the cleanliness, appearance, and basic maintenance of a busy fitness facility.
This is a permanent overnight position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working overnight, five days per week, with shifts generally occurring between approximately 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM. Final shift hours and five-day schedule will be established with the successful candidate.
This is a hands-on position. Your primary responsibility during your five shifts will be to personally clean and maintain the interior of the facility to a high standard.
You will also be the lead person responsible for the overall seven-day-per-week cleaning program. A separate cleaner will cover the other two days of the week, and you will help supervise their work and ensure standards remain consistent throughout the week.
In addition, you will manage cleaning supplies and inventory, coordinate third-party cleaning services where required, and assist with basic building and equipment maintenance.
Your Responsibilities
Overnight Cleaning – 5 Nights Per Week
You will personally complete the overnight cleaning of the facility during your scheduled five nights, including:
- Full cleaning and sanitizing of washrooms
- Cleaning showers and change rooms
- Cleaning toilets, sinks, counters, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces
- Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors
- Cleaning fitness and common areas
- Cleaning mirrors, glass, doors, and other surfaces
- Emptying garbage and recycling
- Maintaining staff, office, and common areas
- Deep cleaning areas on a rotating schedule
- Identifying and addressing areas requiring additional attention
- Ensuring the facility is clean, organized, and ready for members each morning
This is a hands-on cleaning position. Applicants should be comfortable spending a significant portion of each shift actively cleaning.
Seven-Day Cleaning Oversight
Although you will personally work five days per week, you will help oversee the cleanliness of the facility seven days per week.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervising and providing direction to the cleaner responsible for the other two days
- Maintaining clear cleaning checklists and standards
- Communicating areas requiring additional attention
- Reviewing the quality and consistency of cleaning
- Helping train cleaners when required
- Reporting recurring issues to management
- Ensuring there are no gaps in the seven-day cleaning schedule
- Coordinating additional or third-party cleaners when required
The expectation is that you take ownership of the overall standard rather than simply completing a list of tasks during your own shifts.
Cleaning Supplies & Inventory
You will be responsible for:
- Monitoring cleaning supply inventory
- Ordering supplies before they run out
- Keeping cleaning and storage areas organized
- Ensuring appropriate products and equipment are available
- Monitoring usage and minimizing unnecessary waste
- Identifying equipment or supplies requiring replacement
Exterior & Third-Party Cleaning
You will help ensure the exterior appearance of the facility is properly maintained and coordinate third-party contractors when specialized services are required.
This may include:
- Exterior windows and glass
- Pressure washing
- Building exterior cleaning
- Entrance areas
- Garbage and waste areas
- Other specialized cleaning services
The expectation is not that you personally complete every specialized exterior job, but that you help ensure these areas are properly maintained.
Building & Facility Maintenance
During quieter periods of the overnight shift, you may also assist with general maintenance, including:
- Drywall patching
- Touch-up painting and minor painting projects
- Caulking
- Basic door and hardware repairs
- Minor fixture repairs and replacements
- Installing or assembling shelving, signage, or furniture
- Identifying building deficiencies
- Coordinating larger repairs with management or outside trades
Basic Fitness Equipment Maintenance
Mechanical aptitude is a strong asset.
Where appropriate, you may assist with:
- Tightening loose bolts or components
