Career Contacts is hiring on behalf of our client for a Human Resources Manager based in Surrey, BC. This is a people leadership role for an experienced HR professional who is equally comfortable managing a team and handling the day-to-day work. You will oversee an HR team of two to three direct reports, support a workforce of approximately 250 employees, and serve as the key point of escalation for HR matters across the organization. Who You'll Be
Our client is an established organization with approximately 250 employees across multiple business entities in the Lower Mainland. Day-to-day employee management sits with operations managers in the field. The HR Manager serves as the point of escalation when matters require HR expertise, including employee relations, compliance, performance management, and sensitive workplace issues. You will lead a small HR team, own the UKG HRIS environment, and ensure the department operates with accuracy, consistency, and accountability. This is a hands-on management role. You will be expected to lead and to do the work.
What You Will Do
People Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable a team of two to three HR and administrative direct reports
- Manage workflow allocation, prioritization, and productivity across the HR department
- Set clear expectations for quality, responsiveness, and delivery; address performance gaps directly and professionally
- Train and develop HR team members, building operational depth and coverage across all functions
- Prepare results-oriented operational updates and reports for senior leadership HR Operations & Employee Lifecycle
- Serve as the primary HR escalation point for operations managers across the organization
- Oversee the full employee lifecycle across multiple entities, including recruitment coordination, onboarding, offboarding, employment agreements, status changes, leaves, ROEs, WCB, and ICBC
- Maintain accurate, compliant employee records, HR documentation, and compliance tracking
- Ensure day-to-day HR matters are handled accurately, professionally, and within expected timelines
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Manage employee relations matters including performance management, workplace concerns, investigations, disciplinary processes, and terminations
- Ensure organizational compliance with BC Employment Standards, company policies, and internal HR procedures
- Coordinate WCB and ICBC administrative processes and documentation
- Escalate appropriately and keep senior leadership informed of risks, outstanding issues, and priorities
UKG / HRIS Administration
- Act as the internal subject matter expert and primary owner of UKG systems and HRIS workflows
- Manage employee data, access and permissions, reporting and analytics, organizational structure, site and job code setup, delegation workflows, and geofencing
- Troubleshoot HRIS issues and liaise with UKG support as required
- Train managers and staff on HRIS processes; maintain SOPs and system documentation
Payroll Support, Policy & Documentation
- Support payroll processing and review functions, including discrepancy resolution, benefits administration, and reconciliations
- Coordinate benefit enrollments, changes, deductions, and leave-related adjustments
- Draft, maintain, and continuously improve HR policies, SOPs, employment documentation, and internal procedures
- Maintain organized repositories of HR records, templates, and operational documentation
What You Bring
- 5 to 7 years of developing HR experience, with a profile that demonstrates clear growth and increasing responsibility
- Demonstrated people management experience, including direct oversight of HR staff or teams
- Hands-on UKG experience is a strong requirement, specifically across ATS, scheduling, onboarding, payroll, and workforce management modules
- Solid working knowledge of BC Employment Standards and HR compliance
- Proven ability to handle terminations, investigations, disciplinary processes, and sensitive employee matters with composure and professionalism
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate HR documentation and SOPs
- Comfortable operating as both a leader and a contributor in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment
- Sound independent judgment and a high standard of accountability
- International HR experience from your home country is recognized and valued; candidates supported through a PR process are encouraged to apply
