WHAT IS A COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER AT VINGE?
As a Community Support Worker with Vinge & Associates you will be assisting individuals with developmental disabilities and complex physical and/or mental health issues.

You are responsible for providing care and assisting individuals in their homes and out in the community working towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration and social skills to assist with their daily living. There will be household duties, medication administration and personal care. Our staff often accompany our individuals on fun excursions, such as movies, swimming, bowling, skating, biking and overnight trips!

Starting Hourly Rate is $25.95/hr and increases as per the Wage Grid set out in the Collective Agreement.

Vinge & Associates is a CARF Accredited organization that was founded in 1991. We have since grown to 11 group homes located across the Lower Mainland, two of which are on Vancouver Island, offering a high level of support to 33 individuals with behavioural and/or medical needs. We provide a variety of services including specialized Staffed Residential, Community Inclusion, Respite services, Professional Nursing Consulting services and Training Services. Vinge’s nursing team supports over 250 individuals in BC.

Skills required:
- Experienced/understanding Mental Health and Challenging Behaviours
- Ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues
- Ability to create a stable and meaningful routine
- Experience creating independence vs. creating dependence
- Following health care/behavioural plans
- Completing daily documentation on a Microsoft platform database
- Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
- Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments/activities in the community
- Ability to encourage, motivate and involve client in community activities.
- Proven ability to develop rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.
- Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
- Experience with non-verbal individuals with complex physical and/or developmental disabilities preferred
Must be able to complete and follow routines and household schedule as directed by the Program Coordinator
Qualifications required:
- 1-2 years of prior working experience with complex behaviours
- With Full Class 5 BC Driver's License
- Criminal record check clearance
- TB test clearance
- Doctor’s Note of Fitness/Medical Clearance
- Food Safe for Group Homes/Level 1
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C with AED Blended
- Availability/Use of personal vehicle for work purposes
- With valid Work Permit/Eligible to work in Canada
