Overview:
The Social Media & Marketing Coordinator will play a key role in shaping the digital presence, communications, and brand identity of the Niagara River Lions. This position is responsible for creating and executing social media campaigns, supporting marketing initiatives, managing fan communications, and contributing to the team’s overall communications strategy.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for basketball, strong written and creative communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a strong understanding of digital marketing and communications trends. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with fans, support the team’s marketing and communications efforts, and help build a strong and loyal fan base.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Media Management:
- Create, manage, and execute content across all social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, , etc.) following brand guidelines
- Develop and implement a social media content calendar to align with the team’s marketing initiatives, partnerships, events, and games.
- Work closely with graphic designer, photographers, videographers and other content creators to plan engaging, on-brand content, including graphics, videos, game highlights, and team news.
- Monitor social media channels for fan interactions and comments, ensuring timely responses to messages and comments.
- Analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies based on engagement insights and trends.
- Actively monitor social media trends, best practices and opportunities
- Capture and create original content during home games, team practices, and other events.
- Edit and post timely updates during live events, games, and news announcements.
- Assist with growing the team’s social media following and overall digital presence.
Marketing Strategy & Campaigns:
- Help develop and implement promotional campaigns, both digital and in-person, to promote games, events, merchandise, ticket offers and team initiatives
- Support cross-departmental marketing efforts, including sponsorship activations, community outreach, ticket sales, merchandise, and team promotions.
- Assist with the development of print and digital marketing materials such as flyers, posters, ads, promotional pieces and email campaigns
- Ensure all marketing and promotional materials are consistent with the River Lions brand and messaging.
Communications & Public Relations
- Assist with the development and distribution of regular team communications to fans, including monthly newsletters, promotional emails, and other fan correspondence.
- Draft, edit, and proofread written communications, ensuring accuracy, consistency, proper grammar, and alignment with the team’s brand voice.
- Assist with the preparation of media kits, media advisories, press releases, player/team announcements, and other communications materials.
- Assist with coordinating and distributing media information, including player biographies, team information, statistics, schedules, photos, and other materials.
- Support communications surrounding game days, including team news, announcements, community initiatives, promotions, and special events.
- Assist with maintaining consistent messaging across the team’s website, social media channels, email communications, and other public-facing platforms.
- Assist with communications related to community programs, partnerships, charitable initiatives, and special events.
- Support media relations efforts as required, including assisting with media requests and coordinating information for interviews and stories.
Fan Engagement & Community Outreach:
- Build and maintain a strong online community by interacting with fans, responding to comments and inquiries, and sharing user-generated content.
- Organize online contests, giveaways, polls, and other initiatives to engage fans and increase social media following.
- Support community events, player appearances, school visits, and other outreach initiatives.
- Help tell the story of the Niagara River Lions and its players through social media, marketing, and communications channels.
- Identify opportunities to increase fan engagement and strengthen the relationship between the team and the Niagara community.
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure brand consistency and messaging alignment.
- Work closely with the Ticketing, Corporate Partnerships, Community Relations, Basketball Operations, and Game Day teams to support departmental initiatives.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of social media and marketing campaigns, adjusting tactics as necessary.
- Assist in creating monthly performance reports for social media engagement, campaign success, email communications, and overall marketing goals.
- Track and report on relevant digital and communications metrics.
Administrative Support:
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date database of marketing, communications, media, and creative materials.
- Maintain organized records of media contacts, templates, newsletters, communications materials, and other resources.
- Ensure all marketing and communications projects meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Assist with maintaining and updating website content as required.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in social media content development and management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading abilities.
- Creative aptitude and an eye for design and visual content.
- Ability to develop creative and engaging captions, stories, campaigns, and marketing ideas.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing, and emerging trends.
- A passion for basketball and knowledge of basketball terminology is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of customer service best practices and execution.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- An exceptional eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and game days as required.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a variety of departments and team members.

Pay: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
