Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, performs advanced financial transaction processing and provides technical guidance to Finance Clerks. The position is responsible for complex financial transactions, reconciliations, and compliance activities, including areas requiring interpretation of policies, tax rules (e.g., HST), and accounting treatment. The role also supports quality control, issue resolution, and consistency in financial processes across the organization.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares, reviews, and maintains complex financial records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards.
- Provides training, guidance, and functional support to divisional staff and others across the organization, including process instruction.

Coordinates purchasing processes including preparation and review of requisitions, purchase orders, and goods receipts, and supports the timely processing of vendor payments through liaison with centralized accounts payable functions.
- Provides advanced customer service support, resolving escalated issues and ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Reviews invoices and supporting documentation, resolves discrepancies, and ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
- Monitors and analyzes postings in capital and operating budgets, investigates variances, and takes or recommends corrective action.
- Performs reconciliations and detailed reviews of financial transactions, including credit card expenses and other disbursements, ensuring accuracy and policy compliance.
- Maintains and oversees financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with established standards and audit requirements.

Gathers, analyzes, and interprets financial data for the preparation of statistical, financial, and operational reports.

Responds to inquiries from staff, departments, and vendors regarding financial transactions, processes, and procedures.
- Assists with month-end and year-end processes including reconciliations, accruals, and preparation of working papers.
- Identifies and supports improvements to financial processes, internal controls, and workflow coordination.
- Provides backup and cross-coverage support across finance functions and supports team operations to ensure consistent service delivery.

Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
-
Secondary school graduation, together with completion of a recognized post-secondary program in accounting or a related field, and
- A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a financial or accounting environment, including experience with reconciliations, transaction review, and financial analysis; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.

Must have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Must have the ability to perform reconciliations, variance analysis, and transaction review.
- Must have proficiency in financial/ERP systems and must be at a basic level in word processing and an intermediate skill level in spreadsheet software.

Must have the ability to interpret and apply financial policies and procedures accurately.
- Must have the ability to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently.
- Must be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to give direction, motivate, and recognize others; proven ability to share skills and knowledge with others.

Must have strong customer service skills with the ability to interact tactfully with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to exercise independent judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues.

Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
