Full job description

Swift North Construction Services Inc. is seeking a Lead Carpenter/Construction Laborers to join our team in various locations throughout Northern Ontario. The right candidate needs to have a broad range of carpentry skills from rough framing to interior and exterior finish work.

Swift North Construction Services Inc. is a general contracting company that specializes in residential and commercial construction. We are committed to high quality workmanship and efficient construction projects.

The position does require travel to and from remote communities (fly-in to location) and rotations can vary, standard rotation 2 weeks on, 1 week off. All flights, meal reimbursement, accommodations, tools etc. are provided. Wages are negotiable, based on experience and construction knowledge. We also offer bonuses and additional incentives.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine and calculate requirements

· Carry a site from start to completion, site organization, framing of floors, walls, rafters, truss roofs, trim and doors, window installation

· Operate tools and light and heavy equipment

· Lead Carpenter is a “Working Supervisor”, leader on site, direct other carpenters, assistants, laborers and specialty trades

· Interact with multiple people including clients, managers, and various trades

· Coordination of materials and resources as well as project schedules

· Enforce company policy regarding safe work practices and quality procedures

· Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality

· Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, leadership skills, positive and professional ambassador of the company on site to all project partners, clients and neighbors

· Travel to airport day of travel, be prepared for last minute flight confirmation, changes and cancellations

· Must have safety boots, proper construction clothing (safety and weather appropriate)

· Physical demands: standing, bending, twisting, lifting, repetitive motions, walking, running

· Work overtime hours, weekends

Experience/Requirements:

· Candidate needs to be proficient in rough and finish carpentry and processes in between, proven residential and commercial experience

· 3-5 years of residential carpentry preferred

· High level of tool and safety knowledge, ability to manage tools and equipment

· Experience operating light and heavy equipment

· Natural leadership and initiative, ability to step in and support others with little to no direction, problem solver, strong communication skills, coordinate supplies, crews, equipment

· Ability to work in physical environments, outdoors, all weather conditions, extreme temperatures

· Understanding and experience of working and living in an isolated, remote Indigenous community is an asset

· Fall Protection Working at Heights certification

· WHMIS (Preferred)

· Class G Driver’s License (Preferred)

· First Aid/CPR (Preferred)

· Physically fit, good communication and math skills

Schedule:

· Rotation work (rotations can be from 2-4 weeks in length).

· Full-time, all-season work
