Job Overview
Suzanne Desrosiers Professional Corporation is seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented Senior Law Clerk specializing in Real Estate Transactions and Wills & Estates to join our team in Timmins, Ontario.
With 10+ years of legal experience, you will independently manage real estate files from initial client intake through to final closing, as well as handle complex estate administration matters. This role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses strong organizational skills, and brings advanced proficiency in Ontario legal software and conveyancing procedures.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years of experience as a Law Clerk in Ontario Real Estate and Estates law (Northern Ontario experience is a strong asset).
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on expertise with Teraview / Teranet, DoProcess software (Unity, Estate-A-Base, Conveyancer), and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Real Estate Knowledge: Proficient in drafting Agreement of Purchase and Sale (APS) documents and offer letters using standard OREA forms.
- Problem Solving & Precision: Exceptional attention to detail, strong title searching knowledge, and ability to manage tight closing deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Communication & Service: Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with clients, realtors, financial institutions, and opposing counsel.
- Legally Eligible: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Real Estate Transactions:
- Manage residential and commercial real estate files independently from start to finish.
- Prepare and review OREA Agreements of Purchase and Sale, amendments, and related offer documents.
- Perform comprehensive title and off-title searches; draft and review title requisition letters and respond to requisitions from opposing counsel.
- Prepare all closing documentation, trust statements, and statement of adjustments.
- Coordinate with financial institutions to secure mortgage instructions, draft mortgage security documents, and execute registrations/discharges via Teraview.
- Communicate directly with title insurance companies to order policies and clear exceptions.
Wills & Estates:
- Utilize Estate-A-Base to draft Wills, Powers of Attorney, and related estate planning documentation.
- Prepare applications for Probate / Certificates of Appointment of Estate Trustee with or without a Will.
- Assist with estate administration, asset distribution schedules, passings of accounts, and corresponding with beneficiaries and financial institutions.
Administrative & Practice Support:
- Manage file billing, preparation of client accounts, and process payments.
- Maintain organized physical and electronic files, ensuring compliance with Law Society of Ontario guidelines.
- Assist with general client inquiries and maintain professional relationships across the local Timmins legal community.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $55,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year (commensurate with experience)
