Full job description

Purpose:
In advancing the Division's strategic vision to support student success and foster a sense of belonging, the Budget Analyst operates within established York University financial policies and guidelines to ensure the integrity, transparency, and accuracy of key Student Financial Services processes, including fee implementation, financial aid, scholarships, awards, and bursaries. Aligned with the Division of Vice-Provost Students' commitment to equity, inclusion, service excellence, collaboration, and accountability, this role helps ensure financial practices support equitable access to essential resources and remove barriers that impact diverse student communities.The Budget Analyst develops and maintains financial models, databases, recurring and ad hoc reports, and supporting documentation, and performs and monitors account reconciliations to ensure compliance and financial accuracy. The position also supports budgeting and forecasting activities, planning and control processes, and contributes to process improvements, automation, and optimization to enhance efficiency and the quality of service delivery in ways that strengthen student outcomes and uphold the VPS strategic priorities of inclusion and service excellence.

Education:
University Degree in a financial related field (e.g. Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration) or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
2 years' recent experience. Progressive experience in accounting and/or financial analysis in a complex computerized records environment. Experience in accounting and financial concepts and principles required. experience working with and analyzing financial and non-financial data (e.g. explaining variances, producing financial reports, creating and maintaining complex financial models, and compliance review). Experience with complex reconciliations Demonstrated achievements related to process improvements and enhancements of financial work flows

Skills:

Accounting skills, including application of accounting principles and practices
Reconciliation/monitoring skills for financial records.
Effective attention to detail
Effective mathematical skills to work accurately with figures
Effective analytical skills to interpret policies and/or procedures and their application
Effective communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills to deal effectively with a wide range of internal and external contacts to share information and resolve issues
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and perform as a team player
Exercise good judgment, initiative and discretion
Effective organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure of deadlines
Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and new procedures/policies/technologies
Demonstrated knowledge of complex financial ministry policy and procedures. Advanced computer spreadsheet skills (MS Excel, Power BI). intermediate word processing skills (MS Word)

- Intermediate skills accessing on-line records systems and data bases (e.g., Financial Systems - E-Reports, Student Information Systems - SIS, Access)

Proficiency in the use of computerized scheduling system software (e.g. Outlook)
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Hours of work: 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to FridaySummer: Friday before Victoria Day Weekend until Labour Day Weekend Friday reduced by one (1) Hour.Requests to work overtime may occur during peak periodsPeak periods for this position: January - MayVacation restriction: September and January - May
