Child Life Specialist - Casual Float

Position Description

The Child Life Department at SickKids is seeking a skilled and adaptable Child Life Specialist to join the team in a casual float capacity. In this role, you will provide flexible coverage across clinical areas, supporting children and families through a wide range of healthcare experiences. This position plays an important role in promoting emotional safety and ensuring consistent, high-quality care across the organization.

Here's What You'll Get To Do
Assess the developmental level and the psychosocial and emotional responses of children to illness and the treatment process
Develop and implement individualized plans of care that promote optimal development and support normal living patterns and experiences
Discuss sensitive and medical information with children of varying ages and developmental capacities
Prepare children for medical procedures and provide supportive interventions during procedures
Provide a variety of goal directed play opportunities that support mastery, self-expression, learning, and peer interaction
Collaborate with families and the interprofessional team using an emotional safety and family centered care approach
Adapt quickly across clinical environments to provide Child Life support where needed
Integrate research into practice and contribute to the creation, use, and sharing of new knowledge
Here's What You'll Need
Current Certified Child Life Specialist designation or ability to obtain CCLS credentials within six months of hire
University degree in a child related field
Previous experience supporting children and families with medical or special needs
Completion of Child Life coursework with pediatric clinical experience
Familiarity with family centered care and interprofessional practice
Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and use of evidence-based practice
Strong problem solving, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively within a team
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in care and practice
Employment Type

Casual with availability to support weekday and evening shifts, including weekends, based on departmental needs
