As our solar division continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Commercial Solar Site Foreman to lead our field crews on commercial rooftop solar installations across Ontario.
This is a working leadership role. You won't be managing from the sidelines—you'll lead by example, working alongside your crew while ensuring every project is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
About the Role
As the Commercial Solar Site Foreman, you will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of commercial solar projects from site mobilization through commissioning.
You'll lead installation crews, coordinate daily activities, solve problems in the field, maintain quality standards, and ensure projects remain on schedule. You'll also actively participate in the installation of solar systems, helping your team complete work safely and efficiently.
You are the leader on site and the primary point of contact between the field crew, Engineers, subcontractors, and the Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership
- Lead and mentor installation crews on commercial rooftop solar projects.
- Assign daily work activities and ensure crews remain productive throughout the day.
- Foster a professional, respectful, and safety-first work environment.
- Train and support junior installers in proper installation techniques and safe work practices.
- Coordinate subcontractors and multiple trades working on site.
Installation
- Actively participate in the installation of commercial rooftop solar systems.
- Install racking systems, attachment systems, ballast systems, solar modules, cable management, and related equipment.
- Assist with conduit installation, equipment mounting, inverter placement, and system layout.
- Coordinate closely with licensed electricians during DC and AC electrical installations.
- Ensure installations follow engineering drawings, manufacturer specifications, and company standards.
Site Management
- Plan daily work activities and coordinate site logistics.
- Organize material deliveries, rooftop staging, equipment, crane lifts, and waste removal.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient worksite.
- Identify and resolve site issues, drawing discrepancies, material shortages, and scheduling conflicts before they impact the project.
- Assist the Project Manager with manpower planning and scheduling.
Safety
- Lead daily toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Ensure compliance with OHSA, Working at Heights requirements, ESA regulations, and company safety policies.
- Promote safe work practices around rooftop hazards and electrical systems.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, and site-specific safety procedures.
- Complete site inspections, safety documentation, and incident reporting when required.
Quality Control
- Inspect all installation work to ensure it meets engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications.
- Verify proper installation of racking, modules, ballast or attachment systems, conduit routing, and cable management.
- Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Prepare projects for inspections, commissioning, and project closeout.
Communication & Documentation
- Provide daily progress updates to the Project Manager.
- Complete daily site reports, labour tracking, and photo documentation.
- Communicate professionally with clients, landlords, inspectors, engineers, utilities, and subcontractors.
- Escalate project risks, delays, or technical issues promptly.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial solar, commercial construction, electrical, or a related trade.
- Minimum 2 years leading field crews or acting as a foreman.
- Experience installing commercial rooftop solar systems is strongly preferred.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding installation work.
- Comfortable working at heights on commercial rooftops.
- Valid Working at Heights certification.
- Valid G Driver's Lisence with reliable transportation.
- Ability to read construction drawings, electrical layouts, and installation plans.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout Ontario and work overtime when project schedules require.
Preferred
- Electrical background (309A or Master Electrician).
- Solar PV installation experience.
- Flat roofing experience.
- Experience with commercial racking systems.
- Boom Lift, Scissor Lift, or Telehandler certifications.
- First Aid & CPR.
- WHMIS.
- Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Training.
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software.
