Full job description

The CAMH Therapeutic Neighbourhood is seeking a part-time, contract (until March 31, 2027) Hairstylist to provide services to a new initiative providing skilled in-house haircuts and hairstyles to CAMH patients. This initiative, “Mobile Cut and Style”, is funded by CAMH Gifts of Light and in partnership with Employment Works.

Reporting to the Manager of the CAMH Therapeutic Neighbourhood (TN), the Hairstylist will operate out of the TN for appointments and will visit CAMH inpatients, who have an appointment to get a haircut or hairstyle on their units with the support of CAMH clinicians,

Responsibilities

Welcoming patients and consulting with them on their desired hairstyles
Cutting and trimming hair according to patients’ instructions – including longer hair
Styling of patient’s hair - inclusive of braiding and locs
Using and maintaining cutting and styling tools (tools will be provided)
Ensuring tools are cleaned, sanitized and counted after each use according to Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) guidelines and CAMH Safety Protocol
Supporting a safe and secure environment for CAMH Patients and Staff
Tracking haircut statistics
Other duties as required

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have at least two years of experience providing personal care services, including hair styling (braiding and locs) and haircutting services. Completion of a hairstyling apprentice program or completion of a college or other program in hairstyling is required. Experience working with people who have received mental health and/or addiction services is an asset. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent customer service skills, demonstrate keen attention to detail, and strong organization and time management skills. Experience working with diverse clientele including cutting and styling black hair is a requirement. Lastly, the ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings, with individuals from diverse backgrounds, is a must.

Salary Range: $23.64-$29.15/hour
