Job Title: Cardiology Technician (Casual)

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Cleveland Clinic Canada is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cardiology Technician to join our casual team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting stress testing, performing electrocardiograms (ECGs), Holter monitor hookups and reporting, and conducting exercise capacity assessments and VO2 max testing. This role is crucial in helping diagnose and monitor heart conditions in patients, ensuring the highest level of patient care and diagnostic accuracy with a strong focus on customer service and a patient-first approach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct Stress Testing:
- Perform treadmill and pharmacologic stress tests.
- Monitor patients' heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG during tests.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, and clear communication throughout the testing process.
Perform Electrocardiograms (ECGs):
- Conduct standard 12-lead ECGs on patients.
- Maintain accurate records of ECG results and patient information.
Holter Monitoring:
- Hook up Holter monitors to patients and provide clear instructions for use.
- Analyze Holter monitor recordings and generate detailed reports.
Exercise Capacity Assessment and VO2 Max Testing:
- Conduct exercise capacity assessments to evaluate patients' cardiovascular fitness.
- Perform VO2 max testing to measure maximum oxygen uptake.
- Provide comprehensive reports for the supervising cardiologist.
Other Related Duties:
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with patients throughout the testing process.
- Ensure the care provided is safe, appropriate, tailored, timely, and maximizes the potential of the available equipment and resources.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize significant cardiac arrhythmias, variations in wave morphology and electrocardiographic signs of myocardial ischemia/infarction on ECG’s.
- Good working knowledge of computers and database management (GE Case software in particular).
- Collaborates with cardiac sonographers to conduct stress echocardiogram tests and support the cardiology department.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Assist with facilitating the flow of patients through the clinic.
- Demonstrate commitment to a patient-centered approach to care.
- Respect patient rights and needs and foster an environment that encourages the patient’s involvement in their own care, extending this commitment to patients from all cultures and backgrounds.
- Participate in quality control, assurance, and improvement programs.
- Monitor patient status and respond to any change in condition to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Organize, prioritize, and coordinate scheduling of procedures, communicate verbally with appropriate personnel regarding procedure types, lab results, equipment failures, policies, and procedures.
- Perform safety and sanitary procedures after each test on the equipment.
- Maintain adequate supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required for operational purposes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Completion of a CMA-approved cardiology technology diploma program.
- Registered Cardiology Technologist with the CSCT.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a clinical setting performing exercise stress tests and Holter hook-ups.
- Experience with Holter scanning is an asset.
- Demonstrated advanced arrhythmia interpretation skills.
- CPR training/certification.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills are essential.
- Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Interact well with staff and patients through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
Working Conditions:
- Casual support covering Monday to Friday with the opportunity to work some Saturday shifts.
- Shift times are typically 7:30am – 4:00pm with possible shift extension to 5:00pm to support Cardiology Clinics.
- Work is performed in a clinical environment with exposure to patients and medical equipment.
- Physical requirements include standing for extended periods and assisting patients with mobility.
The pay range reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final rate offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidates’ experience, education, training and alignment with the role’s expectations.
