Background

Auduzhe Mino Nesewinong (Place of Healthy Breathing) is an Indigenous‑led primary health care initiative that has supported First Nations, Inuit and Métis (FNIM) community members for more than 5 years. Grounded in Indigenous values, self‑determination, and relationship‑based care, Auduzhe was established to address systemic barriers experienced by FNIM peoples. Through trusted community partnerships and outreach‑based service delivery, Auduzhe has grown into an interdisciplinary primary health care model that provides culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and wholistic care across the continuum, including health promotion, disease prevention, mental health and wellness, and primary care services. Embedded within Na‑Me‑Res (Native Men’s Residence), Auduzhe also supports Indigenous men residing at the shelter by delivering culturally safe, trauma‑informed primary health care and mental wellness services in a familiar and trusted setting. Auduzhe’s approach prioritizes community‑identified needs, continuity of care, and coordination with Indigenous and allied service providers, while advancing Indigenous ways of knowing and being within primary health care settings.

Main Function

The Physiotherapist position is intended to support the team at Auduzhe Mino Nesewinong in creating a welcoming and culturally safe space for Indigenous clients. The physiotherapist will provide wholistic and comprehensive care for adults and children attending the Auduzhe Mino Nesewinong Indigenous Interdisciplinary Primary Care Team site.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provides culturally safe care to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis community members in Toronto
Assess, diagnose and treat patients with a variety of physical conditions to manage pain and improve function and well-being
Assess and treat pelvic floor dysfunction (incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, prenatal/postpartum care, etc.)
Demonstrates strong manual therapy skills, designs and prescribes therapeutic exercise programs, and applies appropriate therapeutic modalities as needed
Provide one-on-one, individualized care (30–60-minute sessions)
Maintain clear and timely documentation
Stay current with the latest research and leading practices in physiotherapy
Collaborate with other healthcare providers to optimize patient care
Performs other related duties as assigned by Auduzhe Mino Nesewinong leadership

Qualifications

Registered and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy
Must have liability insurance with your regulatory body
Basic CPR certification
Manual Therapy: Experience in applying hands-on techniques to treat soft tissue injuries, joint dysfunction, and musculoskeletal conditions
Post-graduate pelvic health training
Client-Focused: Ability to connect with clients and provide personalized care plans tailored to their unique needs and goals
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Willingness and ability to work alongside a team of practitioners to deliver comprehensive care
Time Management: Ability to handle a caseload while maintaining attention to detail and providing exceptional patient care
Experience with Indigenous community-based service; experience in dealing with or knowledge of Indigenous health
Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and nurture positive working relationships
Demonstrated knowledge and experience engaging in and working with Indigenous communities
Experience with trauma-informed care; ability to communicate with clients in a culturally safe, professional, and empathetic manner
Strong communication, team-oriented interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
Excellent computer skills and a minimum of 2 years' experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
