The Drug Access Navigator (DAN) supports children, youth, and their families in accessing essential medications by navigating complex drug funding and reimbursement pathways.
Working within the pediatric outpatient pharmacy, this role combines retail pharmacy expertise with specialized knowledge of reimbursement processes to coordinate medication coverage, address access barriers, and facilitate timely initiation of therapy.
The DAN plays a key role in enhancing the patient and family experience, reducing delays in care, and supporting the efficient delivery of outpatient pharmacy services'particularly for high-cost, specialty, and chronic medications
Here's What You'll Get To Do

Assess and coordinate access to medications by navigating public (ODB, Trillium, EAP) and private drug coverage programs
- Manage end-to-end reimbursement processes, including prior authorizations, funding applications, and appeals
- Collaborate with insurers, government programs, and patient support programs to secure timely medication access
- Monitor application status, troubleshoot issues, and resolve delays, denials, or coverage gaps
- Apply retail pharmacy expertise to support prescription adjudication, billing, and coordination of benefits

Work closely with physicians, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams to identify and address access barriers early

Provide clear, empathetic support to patients and families, including education on coverage, costs, and required documentation

Advocate for patients by escalating complex funding issues and coordinating transitions of care (e.g., inpatient to outpatient)
- Contribute to process improvements by supporting workflow development, tracking key metrics, and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and patient experience
Here's What You'll Need:
Essential Requirements

Pharmacy Technician Diploma, health sciences degree, or equivalent experience

Minimum 2 years of retail pharmacy experience required

Working knowledge of Third-party billing and adjudication

Experience with Private insurance claims and troubleshooting

knowledge of Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB)/OHIP+, Trillium Drug Program, EAP

Experience managing prior authorizations and reimbursement processes

Excellent communication skills with a patient- and family-centered approach

Strong organizational and follow-up skills with ability to manage multiple cases

Problem-solving ability to resolve access and billing issues

Preferred Qualifications

Regulated Pharmacy Technician (RPhT)
- Experience in hospital or specialty pharmacy setting
- Experience working with pediatric or complex care populations

Familiarity with biologics, rare disease therapies, or high-cost medications
- Experience working with pharmaceutical patient support programs

Understanding of health equity and financial barriers to care
