Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
Wage Range: $26.87 - $27.45 per hour. Start rate non-negotiable.
Shifts: 0630-1930 Various Shifts Monday-Sunday including alternating weekends and Statutory Holidays
Status: Permanent Part-Time

This position is being recruited to support the Reactivation Care Centre (RCC). Start dates will vary and will be staggered between September and November 2026, in alignment with operational readiness, anticipated patient volumes, and the phased implementation of RCC services, and are subject to change based on operational requirements.
Start Date: Pending kitchen renovation completion and tenant occupancy.
Position Summary
This position supports safe, efficient, and patient-centered food service operations in a healthcare environment. Responsibilities include food preparation and portioning, patient tray assembly and delivery, warewashing, sanitation, food cart distribution, and maintaining clean and organized work areas. The Food Services Associate follows established food safety, infection prevention and control, and workplace health and safety procedures to ensure quality meal service and contribute to the well-being of patients and residents.
Duties
-
Prepare and portion menu items such as sandwiches, salads, desserts, entrées, soups, vegetables, and nourishments according to production requirements and standardized recipes.

Assemble patient meal trays accurately according to tray tickets, diet orders, textures, consistencies, and portioning requirements.

Assemble and deliver bulk food and supply items to patient care units.

Complete meal trays by adding final items such as beverages, desserts, and snacks as required.

Record food temperatures and complete required food safety documentation.

Deliver meal trays to patients while ensuring accurate patient identification and adherence to infection prevention and control practices.

Set up, stock, replenish, clean, and sanitize food service stations, equipment, utensils, and work areas.

Complete daily and scheduled cleaning assignments to maintain compliance with food safety and public health standards.

Distribute, retrieve, load, and unload food carts for meal service.

Participate in warewashing operations, including dishwashing, stripping trays, offloading, racking dishes, handling cutlery, cleaning equipment, removing waste, and maintaining a clean dish room.

Follow all food safety, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, and safe work practice requirements, including proper use of equipment and regular hand hygiene, PPE, and dress code.

Work collaboratively with team members and perform assigned duties in food production, patient meal service, sanitation, warewashing, and related areas.

Required to work at both UHN West Park Healthcare Centre and UHN Reactivation Care Centre locations based on operational requirements.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

At minimum, completion of high school or recognized equivalent;
-
Food Handler Certificate, required (documentation to be provided within 60 days of hire);

3-6 months practical and related experience and/or 1-3 months on the job training;

Previous food service experience, preferably in a healthcare, long-term care, or commercial food service environment.

Knowledge of therapeutic diets, texture modified diets, fluid consistencies, and meal service requirements in a healthcare setting.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
-
Basic mathematical skills and the ability to follow recipes, production tallies, and written instructions.

Ability to work effectively both independently and with minimal supervision, as well as within a team environment.

Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.

Ability to safely operate and maintain food service equipment.
-
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and repetitive tasks.

Ability to meet production schedules and service timelines in a fast-paced environment.

Availability to work a rotation of two weekends on and one weekend off and regularly rotating between morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Satisfactory work performance and attendance record.

Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and the Centre's mission, vision, and values.

Awareness of factors affecting the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
