Role and Objectives:
The Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Design Technician, under the direction of the Design Manager will be responsible for supporting the Sales and Project Teams in concept design, 3D modeling and critical project elements to ensure successful design MEP systems with coordination and light modelling of Mass Timber, light framing wall, and Modular structures. The Technician will interpret the project plans, review code, and ensure the structural and MEP design maximizes the best possible use of our products, while meeting the customers’ vision and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage 3D fabrication models and detailed shop drawings for mass timber and modular structures.
- Design and document MEP systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, in alignment with architectural and structural designs
- Provide alternate design and specification solutions when challenges arise, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the project.
- Analyze and recommend solutions for issues encountered during manufacturing or construction.
- Assist with creating MEP standard documents.
- Work closely with project teams to establish strategies, processes, and timelines for successful project delivery.
- Align architectural, structural, and MEP designs, resolving discrepancies in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to the cooperative development of mass timber and modular system solutions tailored to project requirements.
- Participate in client and consultant meetings to communicate MEP design intent.
- Prepare and maintain project schedules, design files, and supporting documentation.
- Manage and update company historic design files to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
- Support continuous improvement of design and fabrication processes.
- Perform additional duties as requested or required to support project and company goals.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, architectural technologies, electrical technician, Building Sciences, Engineering, or Architecture, or similar subject preferred.
- 2 years of experience in mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) design.
- Familiarity with Canadian and US codes.
- 2 years of experience in BIM (Revit) coordination (preferred).
- Experience with prefabrication and modular construction detailing (preferred)
- Ability to efficiently produce and manage production of 3D fabrication models for mass timber and modular structures along with detailed shop drawings for MEP.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer focus
- Proficient in applicable software (i.e. Revit, CadWorks, AutoCAD, Dietrichs, etc)
- Strong organizational & planning skills
- Ability to multitask
- Working knowledge of project management tools (smartsheet, Monday.com, or similar) an asset
- Understanding of mass timber fabrication processes as asset.
- Knowledge of machinal and plumbing systems expected.
- Willingness to occasionally travel for site coordination or training.
Work Conditions
- Location: K3 - 215 Orchard Ave, Castlegar BC.
- Occasional exposure to dust and fumes.
- Exposure to industrial noise, moving equipment, and overlapping work-zones.
Compensation Package:
- Salary: $71,520 - $89,400 per year (depending on experience)
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
