The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine .

The teaching and pedagogical innovation will focus on the following areas: human physiology, pathophysiology and anatomy. The teaching responsibilities will require an active knowledge of French.

The University of Ottawa is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive universities, with over $340 million in annual research funding. It is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the best universities in the country and the largest bilingual university (French and English) in the world. Located on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe-Algonquin people, in the heart of downtown Ottawa, it contributes significantly to the economy, culture and quality of life of Canada's Capital.

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine comprises over 100 faculty members and features a vibrant research atmosphere. It addresses fundamental questions in basic biomedical research and has strong links to translational and clinical research. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous program of independent, externally funded research and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.

Title of the position: Assistant Professor. The higher rank of Associate Professor will only be considered should the successful candidate possess an appropriate level of experience and commensurate achievements, and according to budgetary approval.

Duties: Academic staff functions include, in varying proportions:

teaching
scholarly activities such as research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work
academic service
graduate student supervision

Terms: Vacant tenure-track position

Wage : Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025)

Skills requirements:

Education: PhD or MD/PhD
Work experience:
- Strong track record of French teaching experience encompassing the following topics: human physiology, neurophysiology, pathophysiology and human anatomy.
- Teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades that demonstrate excellent teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and research.
- E xcellent communication skills in both French and English. Active knowledge of the other official language in Canada is a requirement for tenure. French English bilingualism is an asset.
