Job Title: Youth Program Coordinator & Facilitator

Organization: Uxbridge Youth Centre (UYC)

Position Type: Full-time, Term Contract

Term: September 1, 2026 – June 1, 2027

Hours: 35 hours per week (includes after-school/evening hours)

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

Location: Uxbridge, Ontario

About the Uxbridge Youth Centre

Since 2006, the Uxbridge Youth Centre (UYC) has provided a safe, inclusive, and supervised space for youth ages 11 and up. We offer free daily programs, workshops, and drop-in support covering everything from arts and nutrition to mental health and sports.

Position Overview

We are seeking an energetic, dedicated, and adaptable Youth Program Coordinator & Facilitator to join our team.

In this multifaceted role, you will supervise our daily after-school drop-in space, facilitate existing core UYC activities, and coordinate/deliver our new initiative: "Youth Pathways To Thriving Futures." You will run a dynamic mix of ongoing recreational activities (such as arts, cooking, board games, sports, and more) while delivering structured workshops designed to build employment readiness, mental resilience, life skills, and youth leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Daily Drop-In Supervision & Ongoing UYC Programs

Provide active, qualified supervision in the drop-in centre during open hours, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and non-threatening environment for all youth.
Lead, coordinate, and supervise existing, ongoing UYC programs and workshops, including:
Creative & STEM: Arts & crafts, DIY projects, science workshops, and other programs
Recreation & Social: Casual sports programs (e.g., street hockey, indoor games), board game nights, and more
Food & Cooking: Casual drop-in cooking workshops and after-school snack preparation.
Community Events: Special drop-in events, celebrations, and youth gatherings.
Responsively introduce and adapt casual workshops or activities based on the evolving interests and feedback of visiting youth.

2. Multi-Stream Program Delivery ("Youth Pathways To Thriving Futures")

Directly coordinate, schedule, and facilitate dynamic workshops across four core activities:

Employment Readiness: Lead sessions on resume building, interview prep, workplace communication, and financial literacy. Organize guest speakers, mock interviews, and certification opportunities (e.g., First Aid, Food Handler).
Mental Health & Wellness: Facilitate interactive discussions, mindfulness exercises, coping skills workshops, and peer support activities to build emotional resilience.
Food & Life Skills: Deliver structured, hands-on cooking, meal planning, grocery shopping, and budgeting sessions to enhance food literacy and independent living.
Youth Leadership Development: Recruit, train, and mentor a cohort of youth leaders to co-design and facilitate their own events (e.g., Open Mic Nights, Peer Support Circles, etc).

3. Community Engagement & Collaboration

Collaborate with local businesses, guest speakers, and employers for career panels and industry mentorship.
Liaise with local schools, service clubs, and community organizations to promote programs, manage referrals, and bring in specialized experts.
Work alongside volunteers and community partners to ensure smooth workshop execution and drop-in coverage.

4. Impact Tracking & Grant Evaluation

Track quantitative metrics including daily attendance, workshop participation, and certification completion rates.
Administer pre- and post-program self-assessments to measure progress in youth confidence, life skills, and emotional well-being.
Collect qualitative data, such as participant testimonials, success stories, staff observations, and photos (with consent).
Ensure all data collection, evaluations, and participant surveys are completed accurately prior to the end of the program.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education/Experience: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Recreation & Leisure, Community Development, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience).
Youth Engagement: Minimum 1–2 years of experience working directly with youth (ages 11+), with a strong understanding of youth-at-risk dynamics and marginalized populations.
Versatile Facilitation Skills: Proven ability to run both structured workshops (job skills, wellness) and flexible, hands-on recreational activities (sports, arts, cooking, games, basic tech/STEM).
Organizational Skills: Strong ability to balance daily drop-in activities with structured program timelines, data tracking, and partner coordination.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills; able to build authentic trust with youth while maintaining professional boundaries with parents, staff, and community partners.
Certifications & Safety:
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification (or willing to obtain prior to start).
Valid Food Safety Handler Certification is a strong asset.
A clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required upon hire.

Working Conditions & Hours

35 hours per week, primarily aligned with after-school drop-in hours and occasional evening events (e.g., employer nights, youth open mics, community events).
Energetic environment requiring a hands-on approach, moving easily between desk/administrative work, active sports, creative workshops, and kitchen facilitation.
