Vancouver Coastal Health is looking to hire Health Care Support Workers via the Health Career Access Program (HCAP). Upon completing the training opportunity, successful candidates will be eligible to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
The Long-term Care and Assisted Living (HCAP LTC) program requires a total commitment of 1.5 to 2 years. Successful candidates are expected to be available 37.5 hours a week including mornings, evenings, and weekends during the program. They may also work as healthcare support workers for up to six months before starting school. The education portion of the program typically consists of eight months. After graduation, employees are required to fulfill the Return of Service Agreement for 12 months. Post-graduation, there are no guaranteed work hours, and positions may be casual, part-time, or full-time.
Funding will consist of 100% of wages, tuition and books during the training program.
As an applicant to this job posting, you will be considered for seats at Long Term Care sites across VCH for various cohorts starting between 2026 and 2027. Successful hires will be assigned schools based on seat availability.
As this is a Ministry of Health funded program, eligible candidates for the Health Career Access Program must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and will need to undergo a criminal record check for people working with children or vulnerable adults.

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Health Care Support Worker works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or another regulated healthcare professional, performs a variety of non-direct and/or non-clinical healthcare supports to clients, residents, families, and/or visitors in long term care, assisted living and home settings in accordance with the established care plan and safety requirements.

For applicants with less than three years of full-time instruction in English: Standardized English language proficiency test score. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
