Job Summary
Centre Electric & Technology is seeking a skilled and dedicated Electrical Project Manager to join our growing Electrical Division. Reporting to the Electrical Division Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and successfully delivering commercial electrical projects.
This position requires an experienced electrical professional with strong project management, leadership, and technical skills, along with a proven track record in managing commercial electrical projects. The successful candidate will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and safety standards.
As a key member of the organization, the Electrical Project Manager will oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, material coordination, manpower allocation, and project execution. This role will also work closely with field teams, clients, general contractors, suppliers, and office staff to ensure smooth project operations and successful completion.
The ideal candidate will act as a main liaison between clients, field teams, and office staff, proactively resolving project issues and maintaining strong customer relationships. With strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), construction practices, and project management, this role is essential to the continued success and growth of Centre Electric & Technology.
Key Responsibilities
This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week, with responsibilities split between office and active project sites. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Project Management & Coordination
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial electrical projects from award through completion and turnover
- Develop and maintain project budgets, baseline schedules, forecasts, and three-week look-ahead schedules to ensure timely and profitable project completion
- Coordinate with foremen, electricians, apprentices, estimators, suppliers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders
- Monitor project progress, manpower, materials, and overall project performance
- Provide regular manpower forecasts to field operations and coordinate crew requirements based on project schedules and workload
- Conduct regular site visits to review progress, quality, safety, and compliance with project requirements
- Monitor project schedules and proactively identify delays, schedule risks, and potential impacts to project completion
- Manage deficiencies and commissioning activities throughout the project and ensure outstanding items are tracked through completion
Estimating & pre-construction
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope of work to understand project requirements
- Complete and manage electrical quantity take-offs, pricing, material requirements, and labour estimates for assigned projects
- Lead tender reviews, project handover, and the transition from estimating to project execution, ensuring scope, costs, schedules, and project requirements are clearly defined
- Identify potential scope gaps, changes, and cost impacts and communicate them to the appropriate parties
- Review project drawings and specifications to identify cost-saving opportunities, material alternatives, and potential value-engineering options while maintaining project requirements
- Obtain and review supplier quotations and coordinate pricing for project materials and equipment
- Provide actual project hours and costs to the estimating team at project close-out to support future estimating and improve bid accuracy
Client & Contractor Relations
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, general contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders
- Maintain clear and professional communication throughout the project
- Attend project meetings and provide updates regarding schedule, progress, costs, and project issues
- Address and resolve project concerns and maintain strong working relationships with clients and contractors
- Prepare and manage RFIs, including coordinating with the GC, consultants, and project stakeholders to obtain timely responses and maintain project documentation
Financial & Project Administration
- Monitor project costs, labour, materials, purchase orders, and subcontractor costs to support project profitability
- Establish and maintain project budgets and regularly review actual costs against the approved project budget
- Conduct monthly cost-to-complete reviews by comparing hours and costs incurred against the project estimate and forecast
- Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, change orders, progress billings, site instructions, and other project documentation
- Prepare and manage change-order pricing using approved contract labour rates and ensure all extra work is properly documented and authorized
- Obtain signed field work authorizations for extra work before the work proceeds and ensure approved extras are properly tracked and converted into change orders
- Review project financials and provide regular updates on project performance, forecasts, and potential cost issues
- Review project invoices and progress billings for accuracy, supporting documentation, and alignment with project progress and contract requirements
- Manage project purchase orders and coordinate procurement based on approved vendor quotations and project requirements
- Monitor long-lead materials and equipment, including major electrical gear and distribution equipment, and follow up on delivery schedules to avoid project delays
- Review subcontract agreements at project award and identify key commercial requirements, including insurance, bonding, payment terms, notice requirements, liquidated damages, and other significant contractual obligations
- Track substantial completion, holdback, and lien-related dates and ensure required project actions and billing are completed within applicable deadlines
- Manage project close-out, including deficiencies, as-built drawings, warranties, O&M documentation, and final turnover to the Service Department
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure projects are completed in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), applicable regulations, contract requirements, and company standards
- Ensure required project safety documentation, site orientations, toolbox talks, and incident records are maintained and properly filed
- Support and promote company safety policies and procedures throughout project execution
- Work closely with field teams to ensure quality workmanship, safe work practices, and compliance with project requirements
Project Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and organized project records, including drawings, RFIs, change orders, purchase orders, submittals, site instructions, meeting minutes, schedules, cost information, and close-out documentation
- Lead or participate in regular project meetings and ensure decisions, action items, and follow-up requirements are clearly documented and communicated
- Proactively identify project risks and issues and develop practical solutions to minimize their impact on schedule, cost, quality, and project delivery
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electrical project management, estimating, project coordination, or a related role within the commercial, institutional, or industrial electrical construction industry.
- Education: Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and field experience.
- Proven experience managing electrical construction projects from estimating and project handover through completion and close-out.
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, construction practices, electrical drawings, specifications, and the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
- Experience with project estimating, quantity take-offs, pricing, change orders, budgets, scheduling, procurement, and cost control.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Bluebeam, and project management or estimating software.
- Electrical trade certification, Red Seal Journeyman Electrician, FSR designation, or related electrical field experience is considered an asset.
- PMP, or other project management certification is considered an asset.
- Valid BC driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
