PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER

Squamish Nation is seeking a Senior Health Care Assistant (Sr. HCA) to join the Home and Community Care (HCC) team within Yúustway Health and Wellness, part of the Nexwnínlhewá7nem Ch’áwch’aw Division.

This senior role is key to ensuring high‑quality, respectful, and coordinated home care services for Squamish Nation Members. The Sr. HCA supports daily program operations, provides senior‑level client care, and serves as the first point of contact and supervisor for Health Care Assistants and Homemakers. This is more than a care role—it’s an opportunity to lead with compassion, uphold cultural safety, and strengthen community well‑being from birth to end of life.

What You’ll Do

Deliver advanced personal care, homemaking, and complex care services, including chronic illness and palliative support.
Implement and strictly adhere to individualized Client Care Plans.
Assist clients with ADLs and iADLs such as bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, and nutrition.
Administer delegated clinical tasks under the direction of regulated health care professionals.
Monitor client environments to promote safety, independence, and quality of life.
Document care accurately and in accordance with required standards and registries.
Act as the primary supervisor and point of contact for HCC Health Care Assistants and Homemakers.
Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and training of new staff.
Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to support performance, professionalism, and growth.
Monitor service delivery and problem‑solve day‑to‑day operational challenges.
Promote teamwork, communication, and strong working relationships with clients, families, and staff.
Ensure staff adhere to Squamish Nation policies, scope of practice, and safe work procedures.
Assist the Lead Nurse Assessor in ensuring smooth daily HCC operations.
Provide coverage and support for the Client Care Coordinator and Better at Home Program Coordinator roles as needed.
Support scheduling, documentation, reporting, invoicing, and administrative activities.
Liaise with Nurse Assessors, therapists, physicians, and internal Squamish Nation departments.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, special projects, and community events.

What We’re Looking For

Health Care Assistant Certificate.
Standard First Aid and Level C CPR.
Food Safe Level 1 and WHMIS certifications.
Indigenous Cultural Safety training (completed within the last 3 years or willingness to complete).
3–5 years of related experience, including direct home care service delivery.
Experience supporting clients with chronic illness, aging, and complex care needs.
Demonstrated people leadership, coaching, and conflict management experience.
Experience working in a First Nations or Indigenous community is a strong asset.
Advanced HCA skills with strong clinical judgment and professionalism.
High emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
Commitment to culturally safe, relationship‑centred care.
Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and solutions‑focused in dynamic situations.
Valid BC Driver’s License (Class 4 or 5; Class 7N may be considered).
Reliable vehicle and insurance meeting policy requirements.
Willingness to travel across North/West Vancouver and Squamish Valley.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Salary: $66,689 - $93,364
