Full job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Bus Driver supports Hopehill's mission by enabling residents to safely access programs and community experiences that enhance quality of life and social connection. Working collaboratively with residents, coworkers, volunteers, and community partners, the position is responsible for providing safe transportation services while actively assisting with resident engagement programs. The role contributes to positive resident experiences, meaningful community participation, and effective program delivery. The Bus Driver will carry out their duties in accordance with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada ("CBWC") Statement of Faith and CBWC Cultural Statement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

People

Build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with residents, family members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Provide courteous and resident-centered assistance during transportation and community outings.
Assist residents with boarding, seating, wheelchair securement, and disembarking
Support the Recreation Team during outings and events by assisting with resident supervision and engagement.
Encourage resident involvement in activities and foster an inclusive, welcoming environment.
Respond calmly and appropriately to resident needs, concerns, or unexpected situations while maintaining resident dignity and safety.
Collaborate effectively with Hopehill staff to ensure smooth transitions, resident support, and successful outings.

Systems & Operations

Safely transport residents to and from scheduled programs, community outings, appointments, and special events in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
Operate lift-equipped and wheelchair-accessible vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
Ensure passengers, mobility devices, and equipment are properly secured before and during transportation.
Assist with outing logistics, including attendance tracking, resident sign-in/out procedures, loading supplies, and supporting event setup and cleanup as required.
Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, trip records, mileage records, and incident documentation.
Follow established policies, procedures, emergency protocols, and safe work practices.
Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives related to transportation safety, resident care, and recreation programming.

Stewardship & Accountability

Promote responsible use and care of Hopehill property.
Monitor and communicate risks, safety concerns, incidents, or operational issues in a timely manner.
Support compliance with transportation regulations, accessibility standards, assisted living guidelines, and organizational policies.
Contribute to a safe environment for all stakeholders.
Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, accountability, and sound judgment in all aspects of the role.

Perform other duties consistent with the nature and level of the position as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Valid BC Class 4 Driver's Licence (Unrestricted).
Clean Driver's Abstract demonstrating safe and responsible driving over the previous five (5) years.
Successful completion and ongoing maintenance of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
Experience transporting seniors, persons with disabilities, or vulnerable populations is preferred.
Experience supporting recreation, community programs, customer service, hospitality, or resident engagement activities is considered an asset.
Current First Aid and CPR Certification is considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily works in transportation and residence settings
Regular local travel throughout the Lower Mainland.
Frequent interaction with seniors and individuals requiring mobility assistance.
Exposure to varying weather conditions while operating and loading vehicles.
Occasional evenings, weekends, and special events may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
Ability to safely assist residents using mobility aids, wheelchair lifts, and securement systems.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs.
Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently and assist with loading mobility equipment and program supplies.

Pay: $27.78 per hour

driving: 3 years (preferred)
