About this role:
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Store Manager is required to have a thorough understanding of the industry, practical business fundamentals, and inventory management practices. This is a high-profile position with regular contact with the public and deals with complex customer service issues that often require mediation, diffusion, and correction with the ultimate goal of meeting or exceeding the needs of the customer.
The Store Manager guides other leaders to inspire top performance from their teams by providing leadership and direction to create a high-performing work environment that maximizes sales, controls costs through effective resource planning and inventory control, and maintains a high level of customer-centric focus.
The Store Manager seeks solutions and results that improve processes and surpass standards to drive the business in the BC Liquor Store. This position fosters growth amongst staff by providing coaching and encouragement with clear communications and builds success for the business by encouraging team members to consistently provide exceptional customer service and drive results.

Successful completion of Serving It Right™ certificate is required. The Manager may be required to safely diffuse potentially dangerous or violent situations. Must be available to work all shifts – days, nights and weekends as well as outside of established hours of operation, as and when required. This is a “hands-on” leadership role which may require: administrative and clerical duties; operate a cash register; lift liquor cases up to 50 lbs. to varying heights; and operate a variety of mechanical and hand-operated equipment.

Position requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- A minimum one (1) year of recent experience* with six (6) months of supervisory experience in a retail environment.
Preference may be given to those candidates with any of the following:
- Direct accountability for driving and achieving sales.
- Experience in an environment with annual sales in excess of $1 million.
- Experience with visual presentation standards and KPIs.
- Diploma or certificate in business, retail management OR courses in leadership/supervision.
- Recent experience is defined as occurring within the past five (5) years.
Candidates that are applying with relief time (i.e., supervisory experience in a relief capacity) must clearly state the number of hours of relief they have at the time of this posting. Relief time will be verified at the past work performance stage of the competition and must meet the minimum experience requirement as stated above for the candidate to be successful in the competition.
