The Role:
Currently, we’re looking for a highly motivated and self-driven team player, who has a roll-up-the-sleeve mentality, to support our R&D team as a Food Technician Assistant (Co-op)
Key Responsibilities & Duties
· Assist in the development of new recipes from concept through prototyping, validation, and commercial launch.
· Develop and maintain accurate documentation for formulations, product specifications, and testing protocols.
· Enter and maintain product and nutritional information in nutrition software.
· Prepare and coordinate product samples for shipment to customers and internal stakeholders.
· Lead product sampling initiatives and collect feedback to support product development.
· Work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve project deliverables and business objectives.
· Take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, on time, and with close attention to detail.
· Identify opportunities to improve recipes, product quality, manufacturing processes, and overall efficiency.
· Continuously expand knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and product development best practices.
· Thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while supporting the Product Development team with new initiatives and challenges.
· Actively seeks feedback from the Innovation & Regulatory Manager and team members to support learning, professional development and continuous improvement.
· Seeks guidance from Innovation & Regulatory and team members on complex or unfamiliar situations to support continuous improvement
· Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Currently enrolled from a post secondary program in Food Science, Food Technology or a related field
· Minimum of one (1) year of experience in customer service, food service, retail, hospitality, or another fast-paced work environment required
· Strong baking skills with a solid understanding of baking principles and techniques.
· Passion for recipe development, flavour innovation, nutrition, and cost optimization.
· Knowledge of ingredient functionality, product evaluation, health and nutrition, food manufacturing processes, microbiology, quality assurance principles, and market research.
· Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. food regulations is considered an asset.
· Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· Experience within the retail or consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry is an asset.
Working Conditions
· Regular use of baking tools, equipment, and production machinery.
· Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
· May be required to lift and move ingredients or product samples.
Coco Bakery is participating in the WILWorks program. The following criteria must be fulfilled by eligible applicants.
Students must be:
- Registered, full-time or part-time, in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in any program, e.g., Arts, Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, Math)
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (International students are not eligible)
- Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Students hired on WIL placements must be registered at a recognized Canadian college or university, be enrolled in a program or course where a work placement is part of their study plan

Vacancy Status Disclosure:
This posting is for an existing vacancy. The position requires an on-site presence at our manufacturing facility in Mississauga, ON, 5 days per week.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
This position offers $19.00 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week.
