Community Connections Coordinator

Vernon Immigrant Services (VIS)
Vernon, BC

Employment Details

Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Director
Hours: 35 hours per week
Wage: $28-$30 per hour
Work Schedule: Primarily Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support community events, workshops, outreach activities, volunteer engagement, and partnership initiatives.

About the Role

The Community Connections Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for coordinating all community connections activities under IRCC agreements and grant agreements, building and maintaining cross-cultural and organizational partnerships to enhance current and future programming, and collaborating with clients and community partners to create the conditions in which newcomers can thrive in our community.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct group information sessions and workshops and coordinate events supporting Community Connections (CC) program activities.
Collaborate with the Settlement Worker in Schools program to ensure service delivery to newcomers in Vernon.
Manage the targeted program matching newcomers and established members of the community according to IRCC’s Volunteer Matching and Networking Guidelines.
Work closely with the Language Services Manager to ensure newcomers and volunteers in the community are matched in ways that create informal language practice opportunities.
Help develop external relationships, including corporate sponsorships, to support the agency’s mission and goals by identifying and developing community engagement and partnerships opportunities with employers, community leaders and community organizations.
Manage projects related to anti-racism and community outreach.
Supervise Community Connections and project staff and manage staff development.
Maintain accurate accounts and budgets for the expenditure of grant funding, including budgets for projects and community events.
Track and record Community Connections activities and clients served, ensuring that activity reporting to IRCC is accurate and up-to-date and that Community Connections is on track to meet all program targets.
Support management with Community Connections reporting.
Increase cross-cultural understanding in the community.
Build meaningful relationships between VIS and current/prospective community partners.
Deliver presentations to community members, stakeholders, and potential partners in the region.
Collaborate with Marketing to maintain website and social media accounts and create and post social media content to support VIS programs, projects, holidays or other events and activities that affect our clients and community.
Develop and maintain familiarity with VIS policies and procedures, program objectives and client service approach, and demonstrate awareness of the department’s role in achieving settlement related contractual goals and outcomes.
Ensure that client records are maintained and stored in the client management system according to prescribed guidelines as established by funders and VIS.
Work closely and collaboratively with other programs and staff.
Maintain strict adherence to VIS confidentiality and ethics policies.

Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in Community Development, Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with newcomers, diverse communities, and/or vulnerable populations.
Experience with anti-racism work is a definite asset.
Leadership or management experience is an asset.
Fluency in a language other than English is preferred.
Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles is preferred.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
Ability to work with program targets, budgets, documentation, and reporting requirements.
