Position Summary
The Community & Fund Development Lead is responsible for coordinating and implementing fund development and community engagement strategies that generate sustainable revenue, foster meaningful community relationships, and increase awareness of the North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS). This position supports the organization's mission by delivering high-quality fundraising initiatives, donor stewardship programs, grant activities, community partnerships, events, and communications that align with the Society's strategic priorities.
The position builds and maintains strong relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers, community partners, and supporters while ensuring an exceptional donor and community experience. Working collaboratively across the organization, the position contributes to a culture of teamwork, innovation, and service excellence. As a member of a small non-profit organization, the position provides support to organizational initiatives as required, with all responsibilities contributing to revenue generation, donor stewardship, community engagement, or increased awareness of Hospice services.
Fund Development & Donor Relations
· Coordinate the implementation of the Society's annual fund development strategy in alignment with organizational goals and fundraising targets.
· Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward meaningful relationships with individual donors, sponsors, foundations, service clubs, businesses, and community partners.
· Identify, develop, and secure new funding opportunities, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
· Coordinate annual giving initiatives including direct mail campaigns, online fundraising, monthly giving, memorial giving, and other donor engagement campaigns.
· Develop and implement donor stewardship initiatives that foster long-term relationships, meaningful recognition, and donor retention.
· Maintain accurate donor records and fundraising data within the donor management system while monitoring fundraising performance and preparing reports as required.
· Monitor fundraising budgets and campaign performance to maximize revenue generation and return on investment.
Strategic Fund Development, Planning & Evaluation
· Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Society's annual fund development plan in alignment with strategic priorities and revenue goals.
· Monitor and evaluate fundraising campaigns, donor engagement activities, and community initiatives using key performance indicators and fundraising metrics.
· Analyze fundraising data, donor trends, and campaign outcomes to identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and continuous improvement.
· Prepare reports, summaries, and recommendations to support informed decision-making by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
· Identify emerging fundraising trends, community needs, and best practices to strengthen the Society's fund development strategies and long-term sustainability.
· Support the development of annual fundraising goals, campaign calendars, and project timelines to ensure coordinated implementation of fund development activities.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives and recommending enhancements to maximize community engagement and revenue generation.
Grants & Sponsorship Development
· Research, identify, and pursue government, corporate, foundation, and community grant opportunities that align with organizational priorities.
· Prepare compelling grant proposals, applications, supporting documentation, and required reporting to funding agencies.
· Maintain an annual grants calendar to ensure timely submission, reporting, and stewardship of grant-funded initiatives.
· Develop sponsorship opportunities and customized sponsorship packages that create value for community partners while supporting organizational fundraising objectives.
· Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective sponsors to encourage long-term investment in the Society's mission.
Fundraising Events & Community Engagement
· Coordinate the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the Society's fundraising events and community engagement initiatives.
· Lead the coordination of signature fundraising events including Dancing with the Vernon Stars, Hike for Hospice, the Butterfly Release, Kentucky Derby Gala, and other fundraising initiatives as assigned.
· Support third-party fundraising events and community-led initiatives that benefit the Society.
· Recruit, orient, coordinate, and recognize volunteers supporting fundraising events in collaboration with the appropriate organizational lead.
· Represent the Society at community events, networking opportunities, presentations, and stakeholder meetings, promoting the mission and values of Hospice.
· Foster positive relationships within the community that strengthen awareness, engagement, and support for Hospice services.
Marketing, Communications & Public Awareness
· Coordinate fund development marketing and communication initiatives that increase community awareness, donor engagement, and support for the Society.
· Develop and maintain engaging content across the Society's social media platforms, ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and storytelling.
· Collaborate on fundraising campaigns, promotional materials, newsletters, donor communications, and digital marketing initiatives.
· Support media relations by preparing media releases, public announcements, promotional content, and community communications as required.
· Monitor communication and social media performance using analytics and engagement metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategies.
· Ensure all marketing and communications reflect the values, mission, and visual identity of the North Okanagan Hospice Society.
Collaboration & Organizational Support
· Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, program leaders, administrative staff, volunteers, Board committees, and community partners to advance the Society's mission.
· Participate actively in staff meetings, strategic planning, training, and organizational initiatives.
· Support an integrated approach to fundraising, communications, volunteer engagement, programs, and community outreach.
· Foster a respectful, compassionate, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace.
· Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards in all interactions.

Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience
Required Qualifications:
· Diploma or bachelor's degree in Fund Development, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, or a related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
· Minimum of three (3) years' experience in fund development, donor relations, community engagement, marketing, communications, event management, or a related field, preferably within the non-profit sector.
· Demonstrated experience coordinating fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship initiatives, sponsorship development, and community events.
· Experience researching, writing, and managing grant applications and funding reports.
· Experience developing marketing and communication materials, including digital and social media content.
· Experience using donor management (CRM) databases to maintain records, generate reports, and support fundraising activities.
· Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and competing priorities.
· Experience working collaboratively with volunteers, community partners, sponsors, and diverse stakeholder groups.
· Experience working in a hospice, healthcare, or not-for-profit environment is preferred
· Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and relevant administrative systems
· Intermediate knowledge of computer hardware and software functions
