(Regular, Full Time Position)

NIȽTU,O Child and Family Services Society – Saanichton, BC

Company Summary

Established in 1997 by representatives from the Esquimalt, Beecher Bay, Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Songhees, Tsawout, Tseycum, and T’Sou-ke First Nations, NIȽ TU,O CFSS emerged as a response to concerns regarding the growing number of Coast Salish children within the foster care system. Currently, NIȽ TU,O CFSS serves seven South Island Coast Salish Communities, including Beecher Bay, Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Songhees, Tsawout, Tseycum, and T’Sou-ke.

NIȽ TU,O CFSS offers three streams of services, all aimed at maintaining Coast Salish children within their families and communities. The first stream, Family Support Work Program, provides goal-oriented one-on-on support to youth, parents, grandparents, and caregivers from any member Nation. The second stream consists of a number of life skills and cultural programs offered by Community Wellness Facilitators. The third stream is Support Services previously administered by the Ministry of Child & Family Development, referred to as delegated services. As a Delegated Children & Family Services Society, currently delegated at C4 level, NIȽ TU,O CFSS delivers various delegated services, including guardianship and care for children in continuing care, voluntary support services to families, voluntary care or special needs agreements, caregiver recruitment, training, and support, youth agreements, respite services, extended family programs, and agreements with young adults.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Practice provides strategic, operational, and cultural leadership for all practice‑related functions across NIL TU,O Child and Family Services Society. The role ensures that Community Wellness Programs, Family Support Worker Services, and Delegated Services are delivered in a manner that is culturally grounded, compliant with legislation and delegation standards, trauma‑informed, and community‑responsive.

The Director of Practice works in close partnership with and supports the Executive Director, contributing to organizational leadership, strategic implementation, and decision‑making related to practice, risk, and service delivery.

This position is responsible for training, coaching, and supervising Managers in practice, protocols, and legislative requirements, and for stepping in to cover their absence as required to ensure continuity of leadership and service delivery.

A central function of this role is to bring teams together under a shared practice vision, guided by the principle of NUTSUMAT SHQWALUWUN (working together with one mind) to ensure consistency, unity, and collaboration across all programs and teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Executive Support & Strategic Alignment

Advise the Executive Director on practice, risk, and organizational matters
Translate strategic priorities into operational practice plans
Align services with organizational goals and community commitments
Support organizational planning and leadership decision making

Practice Leadership & Oversight

Provide leadership oversight for family strengthening and delegated services
Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and delegation standards
Promote culturally safe, ethical, and accountable practice
Support complex and high-risk practice decisions

Manager Training, Supervision & Capacity Building

Coach and support Managers in supervision, practice, and delegation requirements
Strengthen leadership capacity in oversight, documentation, and accountability
Provide ongoing practice guidance and consultation

Training, Learning & Workforce Development

Lead training related to practice, legislation, and cultural safety
Identify workforce learning and development needs
Promote practice consistency and continuous improvement
Support integration of learning into daily practice

Management Coverage & Operational Support

Provide management coverage during absences and vacancies
Support frontline teams with supervision and operational guidance
Respond to urgent practice and operational matters
Maintain service continuity and staff support

Quality Assurance & Practice Improvement

Lead audits, file reviews, and quality assurance processes
Identify practice gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
Develop and implement improvement strategies and tools
Respond to reviews, complaints, and recommendations

Policy, Protocol & Delegation Compliance

Oversee practice policies, procedures, and protocols
Ensure readiness for audits and ministry oversight
Maintain compliance with legislation and delegation standards

Community Engagement & Outreach Strategy

Support community outreach and engagement initiatives
Build relationships with Indigenous communities and partners
Promote respectful collaboration and shared accountability
Represent NIȽ TU,O in community and sector forums

Collaboration, Unity & NUTSUMAT SHQWALUWUN

Foster collaboration, alignment, and shared purpose across teams
Promote respectful and culturally grounded leadership practices
Model NUTSUMAT SHQWALUWUN (working together with one mind)
Support conflict resolution through a practice-centered approach

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related human services field (Master’s degree preferred)
Registration in good standing with a recognized professional regulatory body (e.g., BC College of Social Workers)
Extensive experience in child protection and/or delegated Indigenous child and family services
Demonstrated experience supervising Managers and leading practice teams
Strong working knowledge of legislation, delegation standards, and Indigenous child welfare practice

Preferred

Experience working in or with Indigenous communities
Experience leading organization‑wide training or practice improvement initiatives
Experience providing interim or acting management coverage

Additional Requirements:

· Experience working with First Nation communities, and knowledge and appreciation of the local First Nation community and culture

· Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license (no restrictions) and a positive driving abstract. The position requires an outreach component and driving for work-related purposes and willingness to accommodate a flexible work schedule

· Must provide a clear Criminal Record check
