We are Portofino Bakery, one of British Columbia's fastest-growing bakeries, serving an increasing network of local grocery and foodservice customers across Western Canada.
Portofino Bakery was founded over 20 years ago in Victoria, BC with the mission to provide better artisan bread to the local community in Victoria. Today, we have over 200 team members and 3 facilities and are continuing our mission to enrich the lives of our customers with better every baked goods.

The Bread and Butter of the Position:
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and driven HR Assistant Co-op Student to assist our HR department with administrative and HR-related tasks.
As an HR Assistant/Co-op Student, you will be responsible for:
- Prepare, add, edit, and proofread offer letters, employment letters, presentations, brochures, reports, and other HR-related documentation.
- Open and distribute incoming mails/emails to coordinate the flow of information internally and externally.
- Schedule and confirm appointments such as orientation training and meetings.
- Order supplies needed by the HR department.
- Answer phone calls and other electronic inquiries, for example, employment verification.
- Relay phone calls and messages to HR Director or other departments as needed.
- Set up and maintain an organized manual and electronic information filing system.
- Preparing and sending offer and rejection letters or emails to candidates.
- Coordinating new hire orientations.
- Greet visitors, applicants, and new hires, describe the type of business and introduce them to the appropriate person or the employer.
- Record and prepare for meetings.
- Arrange travel schedules as needed.
- Compile data, statistics and other information for research purposes.
- Organize meetings and conferences
The Ingredients You Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or studying toward a degree in Human Resource Management or related field.
- Proven experience working in an office environment.
- Basic knowledge of BC labour laws.
- Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information System) software is advantageous.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Detail-oriented.
