Job Synopsis

This role contributes to MCC BC’s mission of sharing God’s love and compassion through relief, development, and peacebuilding by walking alongside newcomer families as they build stability, skills, and belonging in their new communities.

MCC BC’s New Foundations (NF) Program supports newcomers to Canada with dependents to fully and healthily participate in Canadian society through an eight-month, participant-centred program focused on financial capability, employment readiness, life skills, and social connection.

Reporting to the Program Director and working as part of MCC BC’s Program team, the New Foundations Program Coordinator is responsible for the full coordination and delivery of the New Foundations Program across both the Victoria and Westshore sites, including directly facilitating workshops and one-on-one sessions, managing the program budget, and working closely with participants, volunteers, churches, community partners, and the Program Intern, whom this role supervises. The role includes a structured onboarding and mentorship period, during which the Coordinator builds the skills, judgment, and relational capacity needed to independently manage the full scope of the program across both sites.

As an integral member of MCC BC, this role requires personal alignment with MCC BC’s Christian identity and values, rooted in Jesus, the Anabaptist community of faith, and the work of reconciliation and peacebuilding. The role includes participation in devotionals and prayer within MCC BC, as well as engagement with churches and faith gatherings, and calls for representing MCC and its work with integrity in all settings.

ESSENTIAL

Demonstrated commitment to a personal Christian faith and discipleship, active participation in a Christian church or Christian community, and nonviolent peacemaking
Two years’ experience facilitating in an adult education environment
Program management experience, including writing annual plans, budgeting, and reporting
Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and ability to provide basic emotional support within appropriate boundaries
Post-secondary education and/or a combination of related education, training, and experience in multi-cultural settings
Legally able to work in Canada
Satisfactory criminal record clearance (required upon hire)
Valid BC Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract (regular travel between the Victoria and Westshore sites is required)

PREFERRED

Based in the Victoria or Westshore area, or able to demonstrate strong community connections with local networks of churches and community service providers
Demonstrated understanding of newcomer experiences and challenges
Competence in other languages
Experience with facilitating programs such as financial literacy, life skills, and/or employment readiness
Experience supervising, training, or mentoring program staff, interns, or volunteers

Adaptability: Navigates change and addresses challenges effectively, using strong troubleshooting skills, including during the onboarding and mentorship period.
Confidentiality & Discretion: Handles sensitive information with respect, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
Program & Budget Management: Writes annual plans, manages the program budget, and reports accurately to funders and MCC BC.

Key Responsibilities

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP & DELIVERY

Provide full coordination and direct facilitation of the New Foundations Program across the Victoria and Westshore sites, ensuring alignment with MCC BC’s mission, values, and program objectives.

Facilitate a participant-centred, strengths-based program experience grounded in adult learning principles and responsive to participant needs at both sites.

Work closely with program participants, volunteers, churches, community partners, and the Program Intern to ensure effective program delivery at both sites.

Coordinate key program components, including group workshops, one-on-one support, matched savings, and community kitchens, across both sites.

Complete a structured onboarding and mentorship period, building full capacity in program coordination, facilitation, and budget management across both sites.

PARTICIPANT ENGAGEMENT & SUPPORT

Lead participant recruitment, intake, and ongoing support throughout the program cycle at each site.

Provide a trauma-informed, emotionally safe space for participants, recognizing signs of stress or trauma related to displacement and resettlement; offer basic support and connection while referring participants to qualified mental health professionals for care beyond the program's scope.

Monitor participant progress and outcomes, responding proactively to emerging needs or barriers.

VOLUNTEER, INTERN & CHURCH PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Recruit, train, and supervise the Program Intern, and recruit, equip, and support volunteers and partner churches involved in program delivery at both sites.

Cultivate collaborative, mutually supportive relationships with faith partners that strengthen program delivery and participant experience.

Encourage meaningful volunteer engagement and contribute to volunteer recognition and appreciation in collaboration with MCC BC staff.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & COLLABORATION

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and service providers at both sites, supporting participant referral pathways and community integration.

Represent MCC BC and the New Foundations Program with integrity in community and faith-based settings.

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION, BUDGET & REPORTING

Manage the program budget, including annual planning, expense tracking, and reporting to funders and MCC BC.

Ensure accurate program records, data collection, reporting, and evaluation across both sites, in alignment with MCC BC and funder requirements.

Contribute to program evaluation, learning, and continuous improvement.

ORGANIZATIONAL PARTICIPATION & CULTURE

Participate fully in MCC BC’s organizational life, including staff meetings, training, devotionals, and prayer.

Model MCC BC’s Christian identity and values in professional conduct and relationships.

Adhere to MCC BC policies, safeguarding practices, and standards of conduct.

Contribute to a respectful, safe, and accountable organizational culture that prevents and responds to situations of abuse of power — including sexual harassment, child abuse, racism, exploitation, and fraud — consistent with MCC BC’s Code of Conduct and Workplace Health and Safety obligations, particularly given this role’s regular contact with vulnerable populations.

Additional Information

Work environment and physical demands: The position works independently with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests from program participants, management, and other colleagues, and providing coordination and support on deadline-driven activities. As such, moderate mental stress is expected. In addition to significant time spent in-person, on the phone or in meetings with program participants, work may require significant computer time, regular travel between the Victoria and Westshore sites, and may require lifting up to 10 pounds. The position will have regular interactions with vulnerable populations.

This is a Full-Time Position (37.5 hours per week). Schedule: blends a regular office hours schedule (between 8:30 – 4:30 pm, five days a week) with occasional evening or weekend work to facilitate program needs.

Location Description

This position is a hybrid arrangement involving work from home and program delivery at the downtown Victoria workshop site and a second site in Westshore (a travel allowance is provided). On occasion, training and meetings may require travel to other MCC BC locations within British Columbia.
