ooking for a rewarding career with growth potential? Join Norland as Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic in the Victoria area working out of Langford location.

Western Grater Contracting is a highly specialized contractor serving Vancouver Island. Our services include blasting and slope stabilization, drilling, shoring and shotcrete shoring, grouting and anchors. Our experienced team delivers safe and efficient solutions for technically challenging excavation and construction projects, maintaining the highest standards of safety and client satisfaction.

We are looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Western Grater Contracting. In this position, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic drilling equipment, as well as related equipment such as air compressors hydraulic power packs, pickup trucks, trailers and small engine repairs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Diagnosis /Fault finding of hydraulic drilling equipment
Repair and maintenance of hydraulic drilling equipment according to EOM specifications
Check for the proper operation of hydraulic drilling equipment
Repair or replace defective parts
Clean, lubricate, and routinely maintenance of all of equipment fleet
Perform routine scheduled Planned Maintenance (PM) services, appraisals, and Safety Inspections
Complete all necessary timecards and report documentation as required
Complete shop work as required by the Supervisor's direction when required
Communicate repair status and requirements with the Supervisor and site foremen
Complete jobs as assigned.
Some out-of-town travel to customers sites’ visits might be required
Proactively seek opportunities to grow customer accounts while carrying out your duties
Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

Safety focused individual
Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic preferred, or 3rd or 4th year apprentice
3+ years’ experience as a mechanic, preferably with field experience
Experience working on equipment including but not limited to conventional cranes, hydraulic drills, compressors, top drives, rotators, oscillators, excavators, etc
Demonstrated ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical issues
Valid class 5 driver’s license (at minimum) is required (The license must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to carry out job responsibilities legally and safely. Driver’s abstract will be requested)
Previous experience with Drilling Equipment and/or Excavators is an asset
Experience with hydraulic systems/equipment and excellent proficiency in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics is an asset
Honest, reliable, punctual, positive attitude and ability to work well with others is a must
Excellent communication skills and willingness to work within a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Basic computer skills
Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime as required at our Victoria Location

Compensation:

This position will earn Union wages and will have access to extended Union healthcare and benefits, a Union-sponsored pension plan, and additional training through the Training Plan. Unionized wage range for this position is $45.85-$52.60 per hour (based on candidate’s experience), plus 12% vacation/statutory holiday pay.
