Salary: $23.00 – $24.00 per hour + tips
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Requires open availability, including weekends, holidays, and early mornings starting at 7:00 AM)

At Janevca Restaurant & Lounge, we believe the best culinary leaders are built from the ground up. We are offering a unique, hands-on hybrid role designed for a passionate, hard-working individual. This role is perfectly split to give you both a rock-solid foundation in kitchen operations and elite-level pastry training:

The Foundation (Kitchen Steward): You will master the rhythm, speed, and organization of a premium kitchen by managing the dish station, maintaining impeccable sanitation, and keeping the culinary line running smoothly.
The Artistry (Junior Pastry Chef): Working directly alongside our talented Head Pastry Chef, you will be trained to prepare and produce high-quality baked goods, artisan breads, laminated doughs, plated desserts, and custom ice creams.

This is a true "earn-while-you-learn" opportunity. If you bring the work ethic and a positive attitude, we will provide the training, recipe book, and mentorship to help you grow into a fully realized Pastry Chef.

Key Responsibilities

Pastry & Production (50%)

Hands-on Prep: Assist the Head Pastry Chef with daily prep, scale ingredients, and produce premium pastries, breads, and desserts to exact recipe standards.
Creative Input: Contribute ideas, learn new techniques, and provide feedback for exciting new menu development.

Kitchen Stewardship & Organization (50%)

Station Management: Own the dishwashing station—wash, sanitize, and organize dishes, glassware, and heavy kitchen equipment efficiently during busy services.
Sanitation Standards: Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized workstation in compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Team Support: Step in to help other stations, manage inventory organization, and support the wider kitchen team wherever needed.

What We Are Looking For

A Passion for Baking: You don't need a massive resume, but you must have a genuine love for the pastry arts and a strong desire to learn the science behind baking.
No Ego & Great Work Ethic: You understand that washing dishes is a vital, respected foundation of any great kitchen, and you take pride in doing it well.
Student Mindset: You retain instructions well, take feedback constructively, and are eager to master new techniques.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for up to 8 hours, bend, twist, and safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications: A valid BC FoodSafe Level 1 certificate is required.
