The Senior Production Scheduler & Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing production schedules to meet customer demand, inventory targets, and operational constraints. This role works closely with Production, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure efficient material flow, realistic capacity planning, and on time delivery in a fast paced manufacturing environment. This position requires strong analytical skills, hands on experience with ERP/MRP systems, and the ability to balance competing priorities while driving continuous improvement in planning accuracy and schedule adherence. The role may support and oversee Schedulers and Material Coordinators.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on demand forecasts, sales orders, capacity, and material availability.
- Sequence work orders to optimize throughput, minimize changeovers, and reduce bottlenecks
- Adjust schedules in response to unplanned events (equipment downtime, material shortages, quality issues, labour constraints)
- Release and manage work orders in the ERP/MRP system
Demand, Capacity & Materials Planning
- Translate forecasts and customer demand into feasible production plans
- Perform capacity planning at the work center and resource level
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to ensure material availability aligned with production plans
- Monitor WIP, finished goods, and inventory targets
Cross Functional Coordination
- Act as the primary planning interface between Production, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality
- Participate in daily/weekly production meetings, S&OP, and constraint reviews
- Communicate schedule changes, risks, and priorities clearly to stakeholders
Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Track and report on planning and scheduling KPIs, including:
- Schedule adherence
- On time delivery (OTD)
- Plan vs. actual performance
- Throughput and cycle time
- Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, lead times, and system data quality
- Support or lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, CI, TPM, Theory of Constraints)
Education and Experience
- Post secondary degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in production planning and scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong working knowledge of enterprise level ERP/MRP systems (we use Syspro)
- Advanced skills in Excel / data analysis (pivot tables, formulas; Power BI an asset)
- Solid understanding of:
- Manufacturing workflows
- Capacity planning and routings
- Bills of material (BOMs)
- Lead times and inventory control
- Proven ability to manage complex schedules in high mix, regulated, or capacity constrained environments
Preferred
- Experience in semiconductor, electronics or similar regulated manufacturing (wafer fab, lithography, diffusion, etch, CMP, assembly/test).
- Lean Manufacturing, APICS/ASCM (CPIM), or similar certification
- Experience supporting NPI / ramp up activities

Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000

The salary range posted above reflects the minimum and maximum for new hire salaries, taking into account factors such as job-related skills and expertise, relevant training and education, and business needs. It is common for ranges to span multiple levels in order to attract top talent across experience levels. It is uncommon to be hired at the top of the range; however, in exceptional cases where a candidate's skills and expertise significantly exceed the role's requirements, we may consider offering a higher salary.
