POSITION PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Manufacturing & Maintenance Supervisor, the Manufacturing Technician - Fabrication & Waterjet is responsible for supporting the manufacture of precision engineered components and assemblies used in Septimatech's packaging line productivity solutions. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering, Quality, Assembly, and Manufacturing, this position supports fabrication, CNC waterjet operations, welding, fitting, and assembly while ensuring the highest standards of quality, workmanship, and on-time delivery.
As a key member of the Manufacturing Team, the Manufacturing Technician performs a combination of routine production work, engineered-to-order manufacturing, fabrication, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering, this role supports new product development, improves manufacturability, and helps resolve manufacturing challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up and operate CNC waterjet equipment to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, manufacturing plans, work instructions, and quality requirements.
- Work in compliance with company Health & Safety policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and all applicable regulations and legislation.
- Deliver high-quality workmanship while completing assigned work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements and Septimatech quality standards.
- Create, modify, verify, and optimize CNC waterjet programs and material nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and manufacturing efficiency.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, bills of materials, manufacturing plans, and work instructions to determine fabrication, cutting, and assembly requirements.
- Select, install, and align appropriate tooling, fixtures, materials, and manufacturing equipment required to safely and efficiently complete assigned work.
- Perform layout, fitting, fabrication, welding, deburring, grinding, finishing, and mechanical assembly operations in accordance with engineering drawings and manufacturing requirements.
- Manufacture fabricated components and welded assemblies that consistently meet engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- Inspect completed components using appropriate measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Complete assigned work orders accurately and in accordance with established production schedules and manufacturing priorities.
- Handle, prepare, and organize raw materials required to support CNC waterjet operations, fabrication, welding, and other manufacturing activities.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering, Quality, Assembly, and other manufacturing team members to resolve manufacturing issues and support the successful completion of customer orders.
- Communicate fabrication concerns, design observations, and improvement opportunities to Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering to improve manufacturability, support continuous improvement, and enhance future product designs.
- Provide recommendations to improve fabrication methods, material utilization, welding practices, tooling, manufacturing efficiency, and overall shop productivity.
- Assist in the manufacture, modification, repair, and maintenance of fixtures, tooling, shop aids, prototypes, and other manufacturing support projects.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, daily inspections, and equipment troubleshooting while reporting concerns that could affect safety, quality, or production.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company housekeeping standards and manufacturing best practices.
- Follow Septimatech's quality management system, manufacturing procedures, inspection requirements, and documentation standards while reporting non-conformances when required.
- Support Assembly and other manufacturing departments by fabricating, welding, fitting, modifying, or adapting components as required to meet customer and production requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, manufacturing efficiency, and overall operational performance.
- Participate in cross-training opportunities to develop proficiency on additional manufacturing equipment and support operational flexibility across the Manufacturing Team.
- Demonstrate flexibility by supporting changing production priorities, overtime requirements, and other manufacturing activities as required to meet customer commitments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College diploma, technical school diploma, trade certification, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fabrication, welding, CNC waterjet operation, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience setting up and operating CNC waterjet equipment.
- Experience using SolidWorks, CAMWorks, and Nesting software to review engineering models, convert files to DXF format, and program CNC waterjet equipment.
- Experience setting up and operating a CNC waterjet system would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated TIG welding experience with stainless steel in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Experience performing layout, fitting, fabrication, grinding, deburring, finishing, and mechanical assembly operations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, bills of materials, manufacturing plans, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment including vernier calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares, height gauges, and other inspection equipment in both Imperial and Metric systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot fabrication, welding, and manufacturing challenges.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical manufacturing solutions while maintaining quality, safety, and production requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload, manage multiple assignments, and meet production schedules in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering, Quality, Assembly, and other manufacturing team members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate manufacturing concerns, technical observations, and improvement opportunities effectively.
- Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Forklift, overhead crane, CPR, First Aid, and other industrial safety certifications would be considered an asset.
- Must be physically capable of performing manufacturing activities, including occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
