Summary and value of the role

The Controller is a critical contributor to the financial health and operational rhythm of the business. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role will take a high level of responsibility for day-to-day accounting operations, support financial planning and analysis, and ensure accurate, timely reporting including tax compliance reporting. This is a hands-on role for someone who is technically strong, systems-minded, and comfortable operating with evolving aspects of a business that is growing internationally and embracing process and compliance aspects that come along with that.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Provide mentorship and day-to-day guidance to the accounting team, ensuring clarity of expectations and a culture of continuous process improvement
Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports
Be heavily involved in month-end and year-end closing processes
Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, cash management, and general ledger activities
Assist in the development and maintenance of strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure reporting accuracy
Coordinate with external accountants and support year end processes

Financial Planning & Analysis

Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in partnership with the VP of Finance
Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support operational decision-making including related to monthly dashboard reporting for internal stakeholders
Identify financial risks and performance trends and bring forward recommendations

Systems, Data & Process

Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial data across systems
Support the implementation and optimization of the company's ERP system (Acumatica)
Assess and improve accounting processes to support scalability and growth
Maintain clear documentation of financial processes and controls
Leverage data and reporting tools to improve financial visibility and decision support.

Compliance & Controls

Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations and standards
Maintain and strengthen internal control procedures
Support external reporting and regulatory requirements as needed

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA designation (completed or near completion) required
4-6 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards
Demonstrated ownership of month-end close and financial statement preparation
Significant experience in data analysis including Excel/Google Sheets and data visualization tools
Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Experience with corporate tax provisions, sales tax considerations and general awareness of corporate income tax matters
Experience working in a project-based, manufacturing, or custom-build environment is an asset
Experience implementing an ERP/accounting systems is also an asset

Skills & Capabilities

Strong technical accounting foundation
Analytical, with strong data analysis skills resulting in the ability to translate numbers into practical insight and in a visually effective manner
Detail-oriented with high standards for accuracy
Comfort with researching considerations for income and sales tax considerations of global business transactions
Systems-minded and comfortable working through process change
Clear communicator who collaborates effectively across teams
