New Graduate Nurse Program
The New Graduate Nurse Program is operated through the office of Professional Practice. This program provides support aligned to the needs of newly graduated nurses during the first 18 months following graduation. NG educator(s) offer in-person support, orientation, seminars, consultation, and workshops to support the transition from being students to autonomous nursing practice.
Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses' Union (BCNU), and health organizations across British Columbia, mNPR provides a consistent and transparent approach to staffing that supports safe nursing practice and high-quality patient care. - Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.

Your Day to Day:
The Staff Nurse:

Conducts thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers.

Develops, implements, and evaluates nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs.

Adheres to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care.

Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results.

Maintains accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems.

Identifies and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary.

Provides direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care.

Supports nursing research initiatives and contributes to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures.

Advocates for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitates discharge plans, and collaborates with families and community resources.

Performs additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team.
