Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to oversee construction projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of construction work through meticulous inspection and data analysis. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to large-scale infrastructure projects, utilizing your expertise in construction inspection and quality control.

Duties

Perform inspection and contract administration duties on MTO and municipal transportation infrastructure projects.
Conduct detailed inspections of grading, paving, drainage, culvert, bridge, concrete, asphalt, and underground infrastructure works.
Review contractor operations and ensure compliance with contract drawings, specifications, OPSS, OPSD, and Book 7 requirements.
Maintain detailed daily diaries, quantity calculations, photographic documentation, and inspection records.
Verify materials, workmanship, traffic control setups, environmental protection measures, and safety compliance.
Review contractor submissions, progress estimates, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Identify deficiencies, non-conformances, and field issues, and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project stakeholders.
Assist with progress payment verification, quantity tracking, and project documentation through CMS/Kahua systems.
Coordinate with Contract Administrators, Project Managers, MTO representatives, laboratories, utility companies, and contractors.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Junior Inspectors and field staff.

Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of construction inspection experience on MTO or municipal transportation infrastructure projects.
Current OACETT RCSI designation or PEO designation (P.Eng. / EIT) is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of OPSS, OPSD, MTO Contract Administration procedures, and Book 7 traffic control requirements.
Experience with highway rehabilitation, paving, grading, bridge, culvert, drainage, and underground infrastructure projects.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials testing, quality assurance practices, and safety regulations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong report writing and documentation abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction documentation systems.
Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills

Experience with quantity tracking and payment verification.
Ability to work independently in both field and office environments.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
