Green’s Meat Market & Abattoir is a Canadian, family owned and operated meat processing plant that has been serving Wingham and surrounding communities for 55 years. We are looking for individuals with the same passion and excitement that our family has about the next 50 years of Green’s Meat Market! We are looking for individuals with experience, and those that see a career in the meat processing industry; however, this is not mandatory. We are willing to teach and train the right candidates.

Job Description Summary

We are looking for an experienced meat cutter/butcher to join us in our provincially inspected meat processing plant! Meat cutters will work in our newly renovated (2021) cutting room where we process beef, pork and lamb for local farmers, restaurants/wholesalers and our two retail stores. Meat cutters will work on breaking down and boning out carcasses as well as preparing steaks, roasts and other cuts of meat. The candidate hired for this position will also be required to join our team of butchers on the kill floor one day per week. We do not require abattoir/slaughterhouse experience, but the candidate must be comfortable with this aspect of the position.

Compensation:

Starting at $22/hour. Exact salary will be determined based off knowledge and experience of hired candidate.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Cutting, boning, trimming and preparing standard cuts of meat products.
Following custom butchering cutting instructions for pork, beef and lamb carcasses.
Displaying, boxing, and packing fresh meat products for wholesale orders and the retail store.
Participating in beef, lamb, goat etc. slaughter each Tuesday. The exact position on the kill-floor will be determined by the candidates previous experience.
Maintaining a safe and clean work space.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work in refrigerated conditions and stand for entire shift.
Must be able to lift/carry heavy loads (up to 60lbs).
Must be able to keep up in a productive & fast paced environment.
Must be comfortable with the elements on the kill floor: extreme hot & cold temps, sights, smells etc. of animal carcasses.

Qualifications:

Knife handling skills
Knowledge of safe operation of bandsaw and other meat processing equipment
1 year + meat cutting experience in a butcher shop, grocery store etc.
Comfortability working in the abattoir (slaughterhouse//kill floor).
Safety minded, quality oriented, and eagerness to learn and be a part of a team.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
