About the Position
The Laboratory Analyst 3 is responsible for all aspects of laboratory analysis including production, time management, quality control, and turnaround time.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks, and materials.
Operates Basic Level 1, 2, and 3 analytical instruments.
Generates work lists and organizes analytical runs.
Prepares complex sample extractions, preparations, and analyses.
Calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments.
Maintenance and troubleshooting of Basic and Level 1, 2, and 3 instruments.
Train other staff within the department/laboratory.
May act as Team Lead for staff.
Quality Control approval review.
Coordinate and prioritize work for a given section/area of equipment.
Review and write SOPs.
Complete CAR investigations and Audit Findings.
Perform detailed data review, interpretation, processing, and entry.
Preparation of work procedures, methodologies, and validations.
Carry out all required work scheduling and planning activities.
Carry out all required data processing (i.e., calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.).
Carry out all required record-keeping and documentation.
Communicate with the Client Services staff as required.
Deliver accurate results to clients in a timely manner.
Technical decision-making for non-routine, complex analyses, or matrices.
Monitor inventory of spare parts and consumables.
Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements and adhere to strict QA/QC requirements.
Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading).
Intermediate user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), with basic computer skills.
Accurate and efficient data entry skills are an asset.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment.
Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Analytical and process-oriented, with the ability to think critically in ambiguous situations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required.
Required Qualifications
Completion of a degree/diploma in Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline is required.
1–2 years of experience working in a fast-paced production and/or preparation environment.
Some experience training and developing direct reports is an asset.
1–2 years of experience as a Laboratory Analyst is required.
Physical Demands
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Ability to stand for a full shift.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. (14 kg) on a regular basis and carry for short distances.
May be exposed to unpleasant odours.
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and requires day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends.
