Operations Manager

Northern Plains Transport, we are seeking an experienced and hands-on
Operations Manager to lead the daily transportation and logistics operations of their growing fleet. Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Operations Manager will oversee dispatch operations, fleet performance, driver management, and operational efficiency while ensuring exceptional customer service and regulatory compliance. This role serves as a key escalation point for dispatch and drivers, providing leadership and support within a fast-paced, 24/7 transportation environment.
As the Operations Manager, you will:
- Lead the daily operations of the transportation division, overseeing approximately 30 trucks and a team of dispatchers and drivers.
- Provide leadership and support to a team of three Dispatchers and approximately 40 drivers operating across both city and long-haul routes.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for dispatch staff, drivers, and operational issues requiring management intervention.
- Oversee fleet utilization, scheduling, routing, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Monitor operational performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement processes that enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Support driver recruitment, retention, coaching, and performance management initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership on operational planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders while ensuring service commitments are consistently achieved.
- Participate in the shared responsibility of supporting a 24/7 operation, providing after-hours availability as required.
You and Your Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, fleet operations, or a related industry.
- Experience managing large fleets and coordinating high-volume transportation operations.
- Experience within fuel transportation, petroleum distribution, trucking, or related industries is considered a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of dispatch operations, transportation planning, fleet utilization, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated success leading operational teams within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to make sound decisions and respond effectively to operational challenges in real time.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build trust, develop teams, and foster collaboration.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an understanding of the demands associated with a 24/7 transportation operation.
