Responsive Behavior Support Nurse (RN)

Job Posting

This is a non-union part time position (2 shifts per week)

Reporting to the Director of Care, the Responsive Behaviour Support Nurse is responsible for leading the assessment, planning, coordination, and implementation of care strategies for residents experiencing responsive behaviours. The role works collaboratively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team to promote a person-centred approach to care, enhance residents’ quality of life, support staff in managing responsive behaviours, and foster an environment that upholds dignity, respect, and meaningful engagement.

Conduct comprehensive behavioural assessments using objective, systematic, and holistic approaches, including the P.I.E.C.E.S. framework, to understand the underlying meaning and contributing factors of responsive behaviours.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized, person-centred behavioural care plans that promote dignity, reduce risk, and guide consistent staff responses across the care team.
Observe, document, and interpret responsive behaviours as meaningful communication, ensuring accurate and timely records that inform ongoing care planning and clinical decision-making.
Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team to review and evaluate the effects of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions on resident behaviours and outcomes.
Respond to resident and family concerns in a timely and appropriate manner, exercising clinical judgement within scope of practice and escalating issues to the Director of Care as required.
Provide and promote person-centred care that recognizes each resident’s individuality while maintaining self-awareness of one’s own values, behaviours, and impact on therapeutic relationships.
Utilize effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage respectfully and effectively with residents, families, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and program evaluation activities, including the preparation and submission of monthly reports.
Promote and adhere to safe work practices to minimize risk of injury to self, staff, and residents.

The ideal candidates will possess:

Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Additional training or certification in behavioural support or mental health is an asset.
Strong knowledge of P.I.E.C.E.S., Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), and other evidence-based behavioural support frameworks.
Experience in long-term care, dementia care, and/or mental health settings supporting individuals with responsive behaviours.
Strong clinical judgement, communication, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
Flexibility to work varied hours and respond to emergent or urgent behavioural situations as required.

Compensation:Part Time RN

Hourly rate: $41.13
Vacation pay: 6%
Post-probation (450 hours): 12% in lieu of benefits
After 975 hours worked: eligibility for Pension Plan enrolment
