At Once Upon a Child, we buy and sell gently used kids' clothing, shoes, toys, baby gear, books, and more. We're looking for a passionate, customer-focused leader to join our team as our Store Manager.
Position Summary
As Store Manager, you'll be responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the store. You'll lead by example, inspire and develop your team, and ensure every customer has an exceptional shopping and selling experience.
This role oversees store operations, the buy counter, merchandising, staffing, training, and customer service while working collaboratively with the Owner and Inventory Manager to ensure the store operates efficiently and everyone is aligned on priorities and business goals.
ResponsibilitiesStore Operations
- Oversee the daily operations of the store to ensure smooth, efficient, and profitable performance.
- Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, safety, and store presentation.
- Monitor store performance and implement strategies to improve productivity, sales, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure company policies, procedures, and standards are consistently followed.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, coach, and develop an engaged, high-performing team.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable workplace culture.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and address performance concerns when necessary, including disciplinary action and termination.
- Create staff schedules that support business needs while maximizing productivity.
Buy Counter Leadership
- Oversee the buying process to ensure consistent, fair, and accurate evaluations.
- Coach team members on buying standards and decision-making.
- Monitor inventory needs and buying trends to ensure the right products are available for our customers.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Lead merchandising initiatives to create an organized, attractive, and easy-to-shop store.
- Ensure new product is displayed effectively and seasonal merchandising is executed on time.
- Partner with the Inventory Manager to maintain balanced inventory levels and maximize sales opportunities.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and work proactively to resolve discrepancies.
Customer Experience
- Champion an exceptional customer experience for both buyers and sellers.
- Lead by example through outstanding customer service and problem resolution.
- Empower team members to deliver friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service that builds customer loyalty.
Leadership Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Owner and Inventory Manager to align on business goals, inventory strategies, staffing, promotions, and operational priorities.
- Communicate openly, share ideas, and contribute to continuous improvement across all areas of the business.
- Take ownership of store performance while ensuring leadership remains collaborative and unified.
Qualifications
- Previous retail management experience required; leadership experience in resale or specialty retail is an asset.
- Proven ability to recruit, develop, and lead high-performing teams.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
- Comfortable making decisions while balancing business needs and team development.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment and adapt to changing priorities.
