Job Summary
The Supervisor, Flagging is responsible for coordinating track protection on internal and external projects. The role oversees a team of unionized and management track employees on the assigned territory, in accordance with Engineering best practices, railway standards, methods and regulations.
Main Responsibilities
- Handle operations by providing on-track protection for external and internal projects on CN property
- Oversee Assistant Supervisors in the creation and planning of work schedules for present and future operations and comply with CN regulations and the collective agreement
- Lead people with clear direction and goals, while coaching and guiding employees through regular performance monitoring
- Participate in and develop clear and precise procedures for on-track protection
- Validate internal and external operational documentation and invoicing
- Carry out the necessary investigations for various situations, including disciplinary measures, and record them
- Participate in safety and planning meetings with all internal and external departments concerning current and future projects
- Handle the vehicle fleet according to operations and operational needs
- Oversee the inventory of products and tools for actual field operations
- Coach Flagging Officers and Assistant Supervisors on protection issues, verify compliance with guidelines and provide targeted coaching
- Support operations in unforeseen or problematic situations
- Organize quarterly in person meetings to discuss issues of concern
Working Conditions
The position requires working in a combination of office and outdoors environments in a variety of weather conditions, on a shift schedule. The incumbent must also be available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires regular travel (50%) throughout the territory.
Requirements
Experience
Rail Operations Management
- Between 3 to 5 years of experience in management and supervising unionized personnel
o Experience in complying with safety standards
o Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving
o Minimum 3 years of experience in railway operation flagging*
o Experience in Labor Relations (LR) (i.e., interpreting collective agreements, handling grievances, negotiating with union representatives, disciplinary measures)*
- Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver's License

- Strong oral and written communication skills in English
