INTERMEDIATE/SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Electrical Team Lead, the person in this Intermediate/Senior Engineering role will lead Electrical design teams of Design Engineers, EITs, Designers, and Drafters on projects ranging from conceptual through to construction. They will be relied upon to act in a leadership role to guide, mentor, and develop junior staff while also collaborating with senior management to move the business objectives of the company forward.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead both focused electrical/controls, and multidisciplinary technical teams, in completing the design work for mining, energy and industrial projects.
- Complete estimates of hours, deliverables and resource requirements, and develop project schedules.
- Work with the Electrical Department management to assess strategic requirements, workflows and personnel needs.
- Provide technical oversight, input, and mentorship for junior and intermediate staff for engineering design considerations related to PLC and DCS based control systems, instrumentation, transformers, switchgear and cabling, low and medium voltage motor controls, reduced voltage motor starters, variable speed drives, and industrial lighting.
- Lead the development of Electrical and Control designs in the heavy industrial and energy sectors.
- Write and review technical and construction specifications and proposals.
- Evaluate submissions from equipment manufacturers and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ensure proper communications between disciplines, with project managers, and with the management team on projects.
- Undertake site visits, inspections and assessments and work closely with our clients to ensure the full and proper delivery of services. Travel will form approximately 10% of the time demands for this working position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of a B.Eng. or B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from a CEAB accredited university. Note that your university’s accreditation, if from outside of Canada, can be obtained from the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario
- Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing in the province of Ontario, or readily eligible to obtain, is considered an asset.
- 8+ years of experience in engineering design and management in electrical and control systems for industrial, utility, or energy applications.
- Demonstrated design team experience.
- Proven ability to work independently and take responsibility for engineering efforts.
- Strong communications skills and a commitment to working in a respectful, professional manner with all co-workers and clients.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills in English. Facility in other languages such as Spanish or French would be considered a definite asset.
